Food security: EU distributes 20 motorcycles in Adamawa

The European Union (EU) in its drive to ensure increased food production and security in Northern Nigeria has distributed 20 Motorcycles in seven Local government Areas in Adamawa state.

Making presentation of the 3 motorcycles each to the field officers in Mayo belwa and Numan councils weekend, team Leader of the implementation partners (OXFAM & CRUDAN), Mr. JohnBosco Abazie told the gathering that the EU is funding the project to improve sustainability in food security and increased income sources to community members.

Abazie who is the Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning Social Accountability Officer of OXFAM, said, the project funded by EU was determined to encourage food farming with a view to eradicate poverty through village savings and Loans Association.

“PROACT is an European Union funded food security, livelihood and Resilience project in Northern Nigeria been implemented by OXFAM and CRUDAN in Adamawa as well as in Kebbi to improve rural financing for villagers.

“The project was implemented in seven LGA’s in Adamawa state including; Fufore, Guyuk, Mubi South, Song, Hong, Mayo-belwa and Numan while with the close of project in August 2021 EU approved hand over of these 20 motorbikes to active field officers for monitoring of interventions,” Abazie stressed.

Collaborating on the project, Mr. Abdulrahaman Muhammad Jada, Livelihood Influencing Program officer, CRUDAN, maintained that the gesture was aimed at encouraging the replicating LGAs to continue supporting the community members to come out poverty and hunger.

Muhammad Jada charged the village agents of village savings and Loans Association,VSLA’s and the field officers to do their best in ensuring the sustainable growth of the scheme in various Development Exchange Centres (DECs).

Responding on behalf of their councils,Head of Service of Mayo belwa and Numan local government Areas,Abdullahi S.Yaki and Abraham Zidon expressed appreciation to EU and its implementation partners (OXFAM & CRUDAN) for the intervention.

They also pledged that the motorcycles as well as the executed project will be guarded judicially so that many people in the areas can benefit.
