The Chairman of Independent Corrupt Practice and other related offences commission (ICPC), Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye SAN says ICPC will continue to train and equip Anti corruption and transparency unit (ACTUs) executives in all MDAs in Northeast region for better productivity that will ensure integrity of our nation.
Prof. Owasanyo stated this at the inauguration of a two day training for executives of anti corruption and transparency unit (ACTU) of MDAs in Northeast region held in Yola, Adamawa state capital.
Represented by the board member representing the Northeast region in ICPC, Dr. Louis Mandama the chairman noted that the commission established Anti- corruption and Transparency Units in MDAs.
The chairman said, ACTUs was established in 2021 with the support of the office of the Head of Service of the Federation with a view to monitor official and Private transactions among officials of MDAs and how they relate with clients and ensure it conforms with highest standards of integrity.
Adding that “the training is to equip ACTU executives with basic knowledge of the National and Integrity Policy (NEIP) and how they can contribute towards promoting the 7 core values contained in the policy at their various MDAs by imbibing and transmitting the core values in their daily lives.”
According to Professor Owasanoye, “NEIP was approved by the Federal Executive Council on 19th August, 2020 to prevent corruption and rejuvenate and resuscitate our lost national values of integrity, human dignity, patriotism, voice and participation, personal responsibility, professionalism and national unity”.
“The training will also afford ACTU executives to have knowledge of another major anti- corruption strategy of ICPC and Executive Projects Tracking Initiative ( CELTI) that was launched in 2019”.
Stressing that the program is designed to restore transparency, probity and citizens ownership of public funded projects, adding that CELTI is a project redemption instrument that identifies and tracks constituncy and executive projects impementation and performance from 2015 till date.
Earlier, the Resident Commissioner of ICPC in Adamawa, Mr. Gearge Lawal in his welcome address urged participants to avail themselves the opportunity and make use of knowledge that will be gained in the two day training workshop.
The two day training which drew about 50 participants from 27 MDAs in the Northeast region will also afford them the knowledge of understanding the Ethics and Integrity Scorecard (EICS) as a value re- orientation tool in public service.
Some the participants expressed satisfaction and hope to use the knowledge in ensuring that the proper things are done.
