2023: Popular Islamic scholar, Jingir makes case against zoning of political offices

By Ahmed Ahmed

A renowned Islamic scholar in Nigeria, Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir has described as undemocratic the zoning arrangements in the nation’s electoral system.

Jingir, who is the National leader of Jama’atul Izalatul Bid’a Wa’ikamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS) with its headquarters in Jos, said that the zoning arrangement is a denial to an electorate his/right to vote for candidate of his choice.

Jingir was speaking in Bauchi Sunday at the closing ceremony of a two-day national preaching which drew Islamic preachers across the states of the federation, saying the national preaching is being conducted in states at three weeks’ intervals.

According to him, every registered voter has the right to vote for a candidate of his/her choice, hence zoning of a candidate to whichever region of the country means denying another voter from the opposition region the right to vote his candidate.

While expressing delight with the massive turnout of Islamic faithful to the national preaching, the Islamic Scholar said the orderly and peaceful manner followers conduct themselves during the event is worthy of emulation by any meaningful organization.

Jingir therefore called on members of the Sunnah to continue to unite themselves especially at the venues of such preaching, as well as continued prayers for Nigerians to live in peace with one another and for the country to prosper in all its endeavors.

The JIBWIS leader commended Bauchi State Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir for building Mosques, worship places and providing infrastructural development to the citizens

He urged the Governor to continue being fair to all citizens of the state irrespective of religious and political differences.

On his part, Sheikh Salisu Sulaiman Ningi urged Muslims to live in peace and harmony with one another saying that the preaching was attended by scholars from within and outside the country especially Niger, Cameroon, Ghana and other neighboring countries.
