The Federal Ministry of Health has sent a delegation of her directors for another round of assessment that would determine the final approval for the conversion of FMC Yola to a teaching hospital.

The team led by the director hospital services of the ministry, Dr Adebimpe Adebiyi have inspected the facility at the Federal Medical Centre Yola where some projects are aggressively ongoing and the Modibbo Adama University Yola, where admission into the medical college has since started, in addition to the land donated by the Adamawa state government for the purpose of expansion of the hospital and proposed site for the medical college.

The team expressed satisfaction with what they saw on ground befitting of a teaching hospital beyond some of the older teaching hospitals in the country.

While appreciating the management and staff of FMC Yola on behalf of the ministerial team for the dinner organised in their honour, a one-time board member of the FMC, Dr Andrew Noah revealed that the simplicity and humility associated with the FMC Yola Medical Director, Prof Auwal Muhammad Abubakar and the Vice Chancellor, Modibbo Adama University, Prof Liman Tukur who were also at the dinner were summarily beyond comment.

The team had earlier visited the chief executives of the institutions in their offices.

It is the kind of simplicity and humility other guests at the dinner spoke highly crediting to the Provost, MAU Medical College, Prof Bakari Girei.

Noah said that he was happy to be among the board members that selected Prof Auwal for the appointment as Medical Director, FMC Yola, based on the overwhelming achievements.

Noah attributed the achievements to the spirit of continuity from one medical director to the other achiever for which the FMC was blessed with.

Noah said the report of team’s findings and recommendations would be positive; in favour of the conversion of FMC to a teaching hospital.
