The federal, state and local governments have been charged to ensure initiation and implementation of policies and programmes with direct bearings on populace in the country.
A Consultant on policy influencing and engagement, Mr. Kenneth Okoimene gave the charge in Yola during a capacity building training on policy influencing and civil engagement organised by OXFAM and CRUDAN for civil society Organisations and Community based Organisations in Adamawa state.
Okoimene said the training was purposely organised to broaden the knowledge and capacity of the members of civil society Organisations and community based bodies towards influencing government’s policies with positive impact on its citizens.
He explained further that the training will strengthen the civil engagement with critical stakeholders with a view to ensure full implementation of policies that can benefit the larger society.
He enjoined the participants to keep their differences and work assiduously for doing the needful by making the governments to provide most needed programs and policies in governance.
Earlier in his remarks, the Livelihood Influencing program officer of CRUDAN, Mohammed Abdulraham Jada said for effective and efficient engagement with the government in the state the training was imminent.
Abdulrahaman Jada noted that with the recent signing of open government partnership( OGP) by Adamawa state government, the capacity building of the CSOs and CBOs is needed for overall development of the state.
Jada added that the training will expose the participants on the technicalities to be adopted in influencing government on resources allocation on projects with meaningful impact on the public.
A participant, Ahmed Dada in an interview commended the organisers of the training stressing that it was rich and timely considering the ways governance is being executed in the country.
Dada assured that with the knowledge imparted on them, the business not be as usual because will change for the better especially with the signing of the OGP by the government in the state.
The three (3) day training which had twenty (20) CSOs, twenty (20) CBOs and Ten (10) coordinating officials was funded by European Union, EU through its development partners of OXFAM and CRUDAN.
