Alh. Umar Mustapha Madawaki, aka Otumba of Ekiti has expressed satisfaction with the cleanliness of the environment, overwhelming ongoing projects with a view to bridging the healthcare gap in the sate and the effective and efficient service delivery, when he visited to commiserate with a patient on admission at the Federal Medical Centre, FMC Yola, Adamawa state on Sunday.
A hot gubernatorial contender, currently on consultations, having hearkened to the popular electorates’ call to hastily bring Adamawa state out of the hazy maze, has paid a somewhat surprised visit to the interim chairman of the northeast online publishers, Adamu Muhammad Dodo whose wife was on admission at the health facility.
According to Otumba, the Medical Director of the FMC, Prof Auwal Muhammad Abubakar is indeed an embodiment of effective and efficient leadership and the health facility is a symbol of success, a promising progress and development.
“I simply visited my brother to commiserate with my sister whom I’m told is on admission here in FMC Yola. However what I’m seeing is summarily a great expectation; Patients are generally given proper attention in a tidy environment, managed by qualified motivated medical personnel and other hearty health workers.
“I also see overwhelming expansion of the health facility with the ongoing projects, which could go a long way in bridging the gaps widely opened owing to mismanaged priority for crudest gain; the chronic clueless thought of building bridges on dry land instead of pumping water from the so close River Benue into people houses, thereby addressing waterborne diseases and other health challenges associated with lack of portable water.
“I notice a steady water supply in the health facility. I learn that boreholes were drilled some kilometers away from the hospital and connected to the storage network distribution at the reservoirs to complement the already existing ones simply to ensure adequate supply of water.
“There’s also a stable electricity supply in hospital in spite of the epileptic power supply experienced nationwide.
“This is contrary to the chronic clueless thought of building the not to be properly funded pseudo cottage hospitals instead of improving by expanding the old ones with both facility and human capacity developments; bearing in mind that Adamawa state government owned hospitals are terribly managed by less than fifty medical doctors, added to the constraints associated with the overstretched unmotivated nurses, laboratory scientists and other professional health workers, while FMC Yola, that is also managing the state owned hospitals in Hong and Jada local governments has no fewer than 200 medical doctors and is still struggling to have more,” Otumba said.
Giving reasons for the visit, Otumba revealed that “it’s a way of registering appreciation and sharing the pains by means of commiseration. Journalism is a noble profession, media practitioners or journalists are distinguished people who make a mark in raising people’s consciousness from the defective memory or deceit. I’m referring to the real journalists like you hear rather than the pseudo kind.
“As online media managers you’ve supported and are promoting my call without any prompting, for a better and greater Adamawa. It only amounts to ingratitude ignoring to share your pains and sorrow, to commemorate or commiserate with you when either of the seasons chanced.
“The conference of Northeast online media managers/publishers as one big family, for which you all belong, is at one trying to reawaken the political consciousness for a holistic system review worthy of commendation”.
The interim chairman of the conference of northeast online media, the lead Publisher and Editor-In-Chief of the Periscope Global Publishers, Adamu Muhammad Dodo, who is also the head of information and media relations of the health facility, described Otumba’s surprised visit as a moral thought of one with human heart.
“I didn’t have Otumba’s Gsm number. He put a call on Sunday that he was on his way to FMC, while I went to pick my kids after the Islamiyya session barely few minutes after 5pm.
“His mission was to commiserate with my wife who’s on admission, I think he was being informed by his forward looking thought media team with conscience. He patiently waited at the parking area for about 30 minutes before my arrival to lead the way to my wife’s hospital bed”, Dodo said.
Hon. Haliru Adamu (Lala), one time chairman Hong local government was among the entourage.
Incidentally, Otumba and Lala were both recipients of the Periscope Global Publishers 2017 productivity award. What Achievers visit!
The patient visited has extended the generosity benefitted with the entire patients on admission, who were wished quick recovery.
“May Allah SWT bless the guest and responds positively to his kind gesture and wishes,” the patients would pray.
Speaking, the interim secretary of the conference of the Northeast online media publishers as NEON or NOMAS, Mr. Mohammed Ismail, the Fact Check publisher appreciated Otumba’s gesture and the honour, apparently far detached from other rather unconcerned politicians who reciprocate by appreciating not one’s services without prompting.
On his part, the TGNews publisher, Mr. Tom Garba observed that recognising by appreciating pen professionals is typical of Otumba. He recounted that Otumba acted generously promptly to the accident that almost sent him to great beyond some month previously.
The Voice of Arewa’s Aliyu Binkola, Daily Hints’ Haruna Yusuf and MGMtimes among others have jointly commended Otumba for the commiseration visit to the patient who’s now discharged.
