Just In: Binani clinches Adamawa APC gubernatorial ticket

Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani has emerged victorious in the gubernatorial primaries of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State.

Binani who is the current senator representing Adamawa central senatorial zone scored 430 votes to emerge victorious in the keen contest.

Pioneer chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Malam Nuhu Ribadu emerged the first runner up with 288 votes.

The immediate past governor of Adamawa State, Muhammad Umar Jibrilla Bindow emerged in third position with 103 votes while Abdulrazak Namdas clinched the fourth place with 94 votes.

Similarly, Umar Mustapha Madawaki and Wafarniyi Theman respectively clinched fifth and sixth position in the contest.

The primaries which started yesterday evening come to its climax Friday morning after a lot of political gerrymandering and speculations of delegates buying against Binani who emerged victorious in the contest.
Reports indicated that two coordinators of Binani have been arrested while sharing huge amount of money to the delegates in order to influence their decision.

A report by Daily Nigerian revealed that the aspirant has made mouth watering promises to the delegates as she promised to double whatever her contenders gave them.

“It was gathered that the pointsmen of the senator began contacts with delegates in fulfillment of Binani’s promises.

“Many other party members who were not delegates are said to have also joined in the bazaar to get their share of the largesse.

“The coordinators were arrested around 8pm when a combined team of security operatives stormed one of the locations where the loot sharing was being coordinated.

“Apart from the men arrested and the money recovered, copies of filled out commitment forms with details of the delegates were also recovered from the scene.

“A senior police officer who was part of the operation said operatives are on the trail of the delegates who had already filled the forms and collected the cash using their details contained in the forms.

“He said they were also combing other locations in a manhunt for vote buyers working for all aspirants in the primaries.

“The two suspects arrested have been taken to the offices of Adamawa Police CID along with the exhibits.

“Police are also said to be in the trail of one Bala Jingi who is coordinating distribution of Keke Napep tricycles to delegates who swore to an oath of voting for the senator.

“Mrs Dahiru did not respond to calls and text message seeking her response on the matter.

“Adamawa police spokesman, Yahaya Sulaiman, could not be reached for comment at the time of filing this report,” Daily Nigerian reported.
