National Commissioner in charge of North East of the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) Dr. Baba Bila has said that 2.3 Million potential voters have registered in the ongoing Permanent Voter’s registration exercise in the North East.
Dr. Bila expressed satisfaction with the Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) registration exercise in the zone advising Nigerians to have a change of attitude in stopping last hour rush in national exercises like electoral process.
The commissioner made the commission’s (INEC) position known in Yola Wednesday shortly after inspection tour of some local government areas in the state stressing that the commission is committed to providing conducive atmosphere for all Nigerians to be registered.
Bila said the conduct of the exercise is successful compared to other geographical zones in the country noting that potential voters should avoid double registrations so as not to lose the opportunity of voting their preffered candidates.
“The exercise in Adamawa is very successful and satisfactory with the large turn out we saw while monitoring the exercise in the state.
“However, my candid advice is for the people to stop double registration because it is not going to be useful to them, it will be weeded out eventually.
“We will continue some advocacy to encourage people to come out and collect their cards on time with a view to doing things at the right time,” Bila said.
The National Commissioner commended the Adamawa state INEC under the leadership of Resident Electoral Commissioner,REC,Barrister Kassim Geidam for the procedures adopted in conducting the electoral process in the state.
Some potential voters in a separate interviews in Yola South and Yola North local government Areas in the state,Gibson Garba and Fatima Muhammad said the processes of the registration are done perfectly but only slowly.
They therefore appeal for additional speedy methodologies for completion of the registration with a view to ensure all Nigerians are not disenfranchised.
