No fewer than 9,384 indigent patients across Adamawa State got free medical treatment as the five day medical outreach organized by the senator representing Adamawa south senatorial zone, Sen Binos D. Yaroe with support from Adamu Atiku, Adamawa State commissioner of works and energy development come to an end.
Dr. Telemoh Dah of Sorterie Afrique who is the lead consultant told reporters on the sidelines of the event that the 10th medical outreach was a huge success as he said no mishap was recorded during the five day event.
He noted that 60 volunteers from various parts of Nigeria took part in the medical outreach adding that another set of 120 volunteers came from different parts of Adamawa State.
Dah also thanked the authorities of Jada general hospital for the tremendous assistance they rendered to his team culminating in the overall success of the exercise.
He noted that the team performed 305 cataract surgeries, attended to 502 family planning issue and treated 458 dental cases.
According to Dah, 406 surgeries were conducted while 2380 people get various laboratory examinations adding that all the treatments and surgeries were successfully conducted as no death was recorded.
“We have not had any mishaps. We don’t have any deaths. We have not rush any patients to Yola. We have already sent two cases to Yola and gave them transport money because of the kind of cases they have. Their cases cannot be attended here,” he said.
The lead consultant noted that the most prevalent cases they treated were eye challenges as eye problems constituted one third of all the cases presented adding that the major medical cases they encountered are malaria and ulcer while the major surgical cases are hernia and fibroids.
He said so far the optometrists have attended to over 1000 patients while the optolmologists have attended to 305 cases.
He noted that in the last ten medical outreaches the senator has conducted, about 80,000 indigent patients get free treatment by the senator.
Thanking the senator and Adamu Atiku for their timely intervention, the board chairman of Jada general hospital, Alhaji Babakano Jada said the relevance of such intervention cannot be overemphasized.
Jada who also stood in for senator Yaroe noted that he was highly impressed by the commitment of all stakeholders in bringing health to the door steps of the common man.
“I want to express profound gratitude to our senator for his deep concern to the plight of our people. This is the second time he is here. May Allah continue to increase him in health and wisdom,” Jada said.
Jada added that the plight of temporary staff employed about 9 years ago will be history very soon as he has spoken to the governor about their plight and the governor gave him his words that he will ensure they are given permanent employment.
“I spoke with the governor on some temporary employments made about 9 years ago and up till now they have no permanent jobs. The governor promised that their issue will be addressed soon,” Jada said.
The chairman also promised to meet with the senator on the need for an ambulance and general improvement of the hospital environment.
In his remark, the Principal Medical (PMO) Dr. Calvin Gaya thanked the two leaders for their valiant effort in addressing the health concerns of the vast majority of the populace.
He noted that his hospital is privileged to be amongst the few to host such gigantic medical outreaches as the current outreach is the second being organized by senator Yaroe.
Gaya noted that from the large turn out of people to the statistics reeled out by the lead consultant, it was apparent that the even was a massive success adding that the medical outreach was a huge relief to thousands of indigent patients who got free services that otherwise will be beyond their reach.
He noted that his hospital has played complimentary roles in the success of the outreach by providing accomodation to some members of the team, coordinated the patients, provided a convivial atmosphere for the exercise and fed the visiting medical team.
