~ Gets 24 hour ultimatum to recant endorsement of face sanctions
Eighteen members of Yola South exco of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led by the vice chairman of the party, Adamu Majekano have vowed to take punitive measures against the chairman of the party, Manujo Isa and four other executives for taking a critical decision without involving them.
During a chat with newsmen in Yola, the 18 exco who expressed outrage over the development said it is preposterous for the chairman and the four others to endorse the purported suspension of Mustapha Ribadu, the state organizing secretary of the party without recourse to the constitution or any other disciplinary instrument of the party.
The other members of exco who endorsed the purported suspension of Ribadu include; Mohammed Aminu, Secretary of the party, Mohammed
Turaki, Assistant Treasurer of the party, Ashraf Halilu Kawu, Youth leader of the party and Salamatu Bala, women leader of the party.
They also faulted the chairman and his group for going to the press to announce the open endorsement of the suspension without involving the rest of the party exco calling on them to immediately retract their statements or face the consequences.
“This recourse to impunity by the chairman and others represents a serious setback to our party especially considering that we are facing the general election in which we intend to win all elective positions.
“We can’t afford to go into this election as a divided house as such will not augur well for us as well as the party.
“The truth is that we are incensed and perturbed by the media outbursts of the chairman who claimed to endorse the suspension of Ribadu purportedly on the recommendation of a ghost committee as we are not aware of any committee set up to address that matter.
“But as far as we are concerned, no such committee has been set up to investigate the purported suspension of Ribadu as such the endorsement of the report is banal and dead on arrival.
“We give the chairman of the party 24 hours to go to the press and recant the unilateral and misleading statement he made otherwise we will be left with no option than to invoke the constitution against him,” he said.
He noted that although they are not in anyway trying to protect Ribadu, they will remain resolute at ensuring that due process of the law is exhaustively followed after which if Ribadu is found wanton, appropriate punishment will be meted to him.
It may be recalled that some exco of APC have on Monday accused the organizing secretary of anti-party activities and handed him a six month suspension.
But the chairman of Bako ward, Hamidu Jika Shago and ten other exco of the party in Bako ward in a swift countermove repudiated the suspension saying that it is illegal as party and constitutional guidelines were glaringly circumvented.
