The Nigeria Bar Association Female Wing (NBAWF) in conjunction with Sayyida Khadija center for education, counselling and entrepreneurship cooperative society, have donated various essential items to the female inmates of Yolde Pate correctional center on Friday, April 14, 2023.
Items donated include 4 packs of sanitary pads, carton of milk sachets,
carton of milo sachets, 10 measures of Garri and 10 measures of sugar.
Others are; 10 plastic buckets, 10 plastic kettles, 2 jumbo mats, 4 jumbo bags of detergents, 1 carton of biscuits,
20 packs of toothpaste, 24 pieces of tooth brush, 20 pieces of vaseline,
6 packs of maggi seasoning and a pack of bathroom slippers.
The team lead, Barr Fatima Raji Bello said apart from the essential items brought to cushion some of the existential challenges faced by the inmates, the visit also provides a window for interaction and awareness creation for the benefit of the female inmates.
She told the inmates that the NBAWF and Sayyida Khadija center for education counselling and entrepreneurship cooperative society are concerned with the plight of the inmates which prodded them to come and interact with them and to donate the package to enhance their well being while at the detention center.
Raji said NBAWF will henceforth provide pro Bono legal services to all the female inmates awaiting trial.
She appealed to the inmates to keep hope alive adding that they should not despair because of their travails as it has become part of their destiny. She also urged them to invest in self development and prepare themselves for the onerous task of nation building after their stay from the center.
In his remark, the head of Yolde Pate correctional center, Assistant Comptroller of Correction (ACC) Musa Gambaki thanked the two organizations for their concerns and assistance to the female inmates especially in providing free legal services to the 17 female inmates of the center.
He assured them that the items will be fairly distributed to the inmates and urged the inmates to reciprocate the gesture by putting the items to good use.
The NBA Women Forum is an arm of the Nigerian Bar Association, constitutionally established to address matters affecting the wellbeing of the Nigerian female lawyer.
The NBAWF has the mandate to ensure the empowerment of female lawyers for success, by identifying and providing innovative solutions to key issues that affect female lawyers.
It achieves this through advocacy, mentorship, organising workshops and conferences on gender issues, leadership, personal development, career growth, work life balance etc.
Sayyida Khadija center for education, counselling and entrepreneurship cooperative society is a non Governmental organization that supports women and girls in Yola, Adamawa State with empowerment skills, knowledge and mentorship programs.
