An All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart in Adamawa, Sen. Abubakar Girei has felicitated with Sen. Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani for clinching the Adamawa top job.
In a congratulatory message he personally signed and forwarded to this medium Monday, Girei urged the PDP to accept the will of almighty.
“I congratulate Sen. Aishatu Binani, APC and the good people of Adamawa State for a well deserved victory at the just concluded governorship election.
“I urge H.E. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and PDP to accept the will of the Almighty Allah and the will of the people of Adamawa State and accept defeat as H.E. Bindowo Jibirilla graciously did four years. He should surrender to the sovereign will of Adamawa people who have now freely given their mandate to Senator Aishatu Binani as our Governor Elect.
“I also call on INEC to continue to remain independent, courageous, just and fair to all in safeguarding the sanctity of our electoral processes. The people of Adamawa State have spoken loudly and INEC should not allow anyone to intimidate or bully them to abandon their constitutional duties or chicken out from ensuring the sanctity of our mandate freely given to Senator Aishatu Binani now Declared as governor Elect in accordance with section 149 of our Electoral Act.
“As we celebrate our hard earned victory and humbly await the swearing in of our Governor Elect on May 29th, I want to assure Nigerians that Adamawa people will remain law abiding as always but also resolute to defend our mandate now freely given to our new governor,” he said.
Adamawa State was in the news yesterday after the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Barr. Hudu Yunusa Ari declared Binani as governor-elect amidst protest. INEC later issued a statement saying that the REC has no remit to declare the winner of the polls.
Later, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri in a state broadcast condemned the announcement of Binani as the winner of the polls noting that it was archetypal to a democratic coup.
