Six candidates score one each as NECO releases 2023 nat’l common entrance results
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has recently released the results of the 2023 National Common Entrance Examinations.
According to the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Andrew Adejo, six students achieved the minimum score of 01.
The 2023 National Common Entrance Examinations, conducted by NECO, witnessed a total of 72,865 registered pupils, surpassing the previous year’s figure of 71,738.
Among the registered candidates, Lagos State recorded the highest number with 18,644 pupils, while Taraba had the lowest with only 102 pupils.
Gender parity has shown improvement, with 38,801 female candidates and 34,064 male candidates. A total of 69,829 pupils sat for the examination, with 3,036 students being absent.
The examination results revealed interesting statistics. While 76 students secured the highest score of 203, it is equally noteworthy that six students managed to score the minimum mark of 01.
The Permanent Secretary expressed gratitude to all individuals who contributed to the smooth conduct of the examinations, including the examination council, monitors, markers, and press personnel. The overall success of the examination showcases NECO’s commitment to enhancing the delivery of its assessments and promoting a conducive environment for quality education.
A positive trend in bridging gender disparity was observed, with more female candidates (38,801) compared to male candidates (34,064) taking the National Common Entrance Examinations.
This development reflects efforts to encourage equal participation and opportunities in education.
The Permanent Secretary acknowledged the challenges faced by Federal Unity Colleges, such as infrastructure, feeding, and teacher quality.
Despite these hurdles, the Federal government remains dedicated to improving conditions for effective teaching and learning in these schools.
Adejo assured parents that measures are being taken to address these issues and provide an enriching educational experience for their children.
