Subsidy removal: Sen. Yaroe distributes food, non-food items to ease hardships
In his drive to ease the hardships wrought on the people following the subsidy removal on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also known as petrol, the senator representing Adamawa South senatorial zone, Sen. Binos Dauda Yaroe has distributed assorted food and non food items to constituents.
To that effect the most vulnerable population including widows, orphans, the elderly and people living with disability across the nine (9) LGAs of Adamawa Southern Senatorial got priority consideration.

Items distributed include 1,953 bags of rice, 465 cartons of spaghetti, 186 containers of vegetable oil, 930 pieces of blankets, 415 pieces of mats and 930 sets of children clothes being provided by the North East Development Commission (NEDC).
To ensure transparency and accountability, Senator Binos set up a supervisory and constituency committees and with their members cut across major political parties in the state such as the PDP, APC, LP and SDP, and as expected, the committees did justice to the sharing formula.
Each of the 9 LGAs had its representatives where they converged at the residence of the People’s Senator on Thursday to have possession of their share of the palliatives for onward distribution.
For effective distribution of the food and non-food items to the beneficiaries, each of the committee members took bags allocated to them to be distributed to the masses at their respective LG Secretariats and down to the ward level.
Our reporter, who monitored the distribution process, gathered that LGAs with 10 Wards such as Toungo, Demsa, Ganye, Numan, Lamurde, Guyuk and Shelleng each got 210 bags of rice, 50 cartons of spaghetti, 20 containers of vegetable oil, 100 pieces of blankets, 50 pieces of mats and 100 children clothes.
While Mayo-Belwa LGA with 12 Wards got 252 bags of rice, 60 cartons of spaghetti, 24 containers of vegetable oil, 120 pieces of blankets, 60 pieces of mats and 120 children clothes; Jada LGA with 11 Wards got 231 bags of rice, 55 cartons of spaghetti, 22 containers of vegetable oil, 110 pieces of blankets, 55 pieces of mats and 110 sets of children clothes.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the distribution exercise, Senator Binos Yaroe said that the items were provided by the North East Development Commission (NEDC), aimed at cushioning the effects of the hardship that the masses have been passing through as a result of fuel subsidy removal by the Federal Government.
He pointed out that his decision to include all political parties in the committee was because he is the Senator of all constituents in Adamawa South irrespective of their political background.
Senator Binos expressed satisfaction with the way and manner with which the committees came up with measures to ensuring the palliatives reach the targeted beneficiaries.
According to the Senator, “The palliatives are not for political purposes. As you know, these items have been provided by the North East Development Commission which is an agency of the Federal Government.
“And the commission provided the items to all of us irrespective of our political party. Hence, these items are meant to be distributed to the vulnerable households in the society.
“This is exactly what we have done here. In fact, the committee at the ward level, we ensure members of other political parties are part of the committee members. This is not a political party affair, it is a programme for the masses”.
Senator Binos said that he entrusted the items in the hands of the various committees because of the caliber of people in the membership, adding that he ensured five people of integrity manned each of the committee being constituted.
In his words, “We don’t only distribute the palliatives, we have given funds that the committee members would use to transport the items to their respective LG Secretariats and down to the ward level so that the items would reach the beneficiaries without much ado”.
While calling on the beneficiaries to utilize the items for the purpose intended, the Adamawa South Senator reaffirmed his commitment and determination to provide good representation to his constituents at the red chamber.
Also speaking, the Secretary of the Supervisory Committee, Hon. Abdulkareem Ahmed Bakala, disclosed that effective measures have been put in place to ensure the palliatives reach the targetted beneficiaries.
He stated, “The distribution exercise will be transparent at all levels because we have put in place effective measures to ensure the main beneficiaries are the real beneficiaries”.
Contributing, one of the committee members, Mrs Hilda P. Makanto, expressed optimism that widows and orphans as well as the physically challenged would be the focus of the committee at all levels.
She noted, “As a woman myself, I am very concerned about widows and orphans. We all know that they are the people that need these palliatives the most, and we will ensure the items reach their doorsteps”.
In their separate remarks, the representatives and coordinators of the 9 LGAs, applauded the foresight of Senator Binos for ensuring transparency and accountability in the distribution process.
They promised to deliver on their mandate as expected of them by the Senator, adding that the targetted groups of people would be major beneficiaries.
