Bauchi govt, partners to rehabilitate 2000 dilapidated boreholes
Bauchi state government and Partner international donors is set to rehabilitate 2000 non-functional boreholes in the state.
Alhaji Abdulrazak Nuhu Zaki, Commissioner for Water Resources stated this while addressing a delegation from Evidence Action, an international Organization with Passion for safe water expansion and exploration in Bauchi recently.

He said community data sheet from the state rural Water Supply Agency, (RUWASSA) indicated that out of the total of ten thousand three hundred and fifteen boreholes available in the state, one thousand nine hundred and eighty two are non-functional.
“The Community data sheet of the 20 LGAs In Bauchi state shows that 8333 boreholes are functional while the remaining 1,982 require rehabilitation,”he added.
Nuhu Zaki told the visiting team that the presence of representatives of key line ministries, departments and Agencies of the state at the meeting was a pointer to state governments desire to fight water related communicable diseases in the State.
The Commissioner assured the international Organization that “All the MDAs with relevant information about the water needs of the state would be mobilized to provide required data for the success of the project.
“We also assure you that government will ensure transparency in the selection of the local governments and words that will benefit from the project,” he said
In a remark,The Country Director of Evidence Action, Pharmacist Tope Ogunbi, said four Local government area would be selected shortly after water point verification which would involve collection of information on key indicators like households per water point,
“Water point type and water point functionality in one ward per each of the 4 LGAs,” he said
“Selection of the 4 LGAs and the 4 wards will be determined by population size, Diarrhea burden of children under 5 years of age, proportion and types of existing water treatment schemes and evaluation of the difference between Rural and urban water points and their Community” He said.
Mr Ogunbi said information gathered through water point exploration would enable his organization to understand the number,Location and types of communal water points suitable for the safe water programme to be implemented in the state under the five year project.
