Nigeria now prioritize sports as serious business – DG NIS
The Director General National Institute of Sports (NIS) Lagos, Professor Olawole Moronkola has disclosed that there is a new shift in the way Nigeria treats sports adding that Nigeria currently gives premium to sports as a serious business venture.
Moronkola made the disclosure during a parley with newsmen on the sidelines of his official visit to Yola where his team built the capacities of sports administrators in the state.

He noted that the Tinubu led administration has put modalities to ensure that sports become a huge money spinner for our teeming youth adding that with such move a number of opportunities will be opened to Nigerians via sports.
Moronkola added that such mindset has made the Tinubu led administration to refocus attention on all the sporting activities in Nigeria noting that serious attention is being given to all the 49 sports federations in the country.
“We are bringing new focus to all sporting activities in Nigeria as currently we are training all type of coaches and managers,” he said.
He noted that the NIS which was established more than 50 years ago is currently being reinvigorated to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
Moronkola noted that when his team came on board, the NIS was operating at its lowest ebb adding that the deliberate policies and programs and far reaching reforms being entrenched are yielding the desired results.
He thanked the new minister of sports and his immediate predecessor for their vision to put sports on a new pedestal in Nigeria.
He noted that previously the activities of the NIS was confined to the classrooms adding that the new roadmap of NIS has given way to more robust engagements leading to the series of activities taking place in Adamawa in the last three days adding that more of such capacity building will be conducted in other parts of Nigeria.
