Calculate reveals reasons for resignation from Fintiri’s govt

• Says I can’t remain in a system which shortchanged my people

A renowned Adamawa politician, Alh. Umar Bello Jada aka Calculate has disclosed that the failure of governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s government to threat his people with some modicum off fairness was one of the major reasons why he resigned his position as Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the governor.

Calculate has about four days ago tendered his resignation as the senior special assistant to the governor on community mobilization and awareness although he did not state reasons for his actions.

Shedding light on the rationale behind the move in a phone chat with our correspondent, Calculate said he took the action majorly because the government has consistently refused to address the cries of marginalization by his people.

“Every political appointee is given an appointment based on either his religion, his tribe, his geographic placement and other such variables. I was given an appointment to represent my people but I didn’t have the powers to champion their concerns.

“My constituents have complained times without number of being marginalized and treated unfairly. All the efforts I made to channel their grievances for redress did not come to fruition. So if I remain in the system, there is every possibility that the people will believe that I’m either lying to them or even complicit in their travails. So in order to remain on the safe side I deemed it right to resign,” he said.

Calculate said another reason for his resignation was that after meeting a top government official over the concerns of his people and after the top government official agreed that the government will address the issue, the government took another action which made him believe that the action of the government against his people was by default and not by mistake.

“I met with a top official of the government who gave me the appointment and complained to him about these concerns. After heated debates, exchanges and back and forth, we came to an understanding that we need to address these issues and fix date for another meeting. But before the scheduled date, the government took another debilitating action which told me that it does not have faith in addressing the concerns of my people.

“Since I have been rendered a mere political eunuch that has no powers to carry out his primary task nor even represent the voices of his people, I felt I have no reason to continue to be part of the system. And as a good Muslim, I cannot in good conscience continue to collect salary for a work I have not been doing. So I have to do the needful,” he said.

When asked whether his grouse was against the governor, Calculate said, people should not misconstrue his action as fighting the governor adding that he has no ill feelings or I’ll motives against the government noting that his action is purely based on the reasons he stated.

When asked whether he will continue to support the government, and the political party, Calculate answered in the negative saying that if he intended to support the government he will not in the first place resigned his position adding that he has also withdrawn his membership of the party in the state.
