Minister of water resources inaugurates Mandara Plateau transboundary ecosystem
The Minister, federal ministry of Water resources and sanitation, Prof. Engineer Joseph Terlumun Utsev has inaugurated the National platform of Mandara Plateau mosaic transboundary Ecosystem Nigeria with a charge on them to ensure every relevant voice is heard.
Prof. Utsev made the call while declaring open the National workshop for the implementation of the integrated Management platform for the Mandara Plateau mosaic held at Elomaz hotel Abuja.

The workshop was organized by the Niger basin Authority in collaboration with the Global environmental facility through UNDP.
Represented by the national focal person for the Niger basin authority in Nigeria, Engineer Ibrahim Magaji, professor Joseph Terlumun said the workshop has two primary objectives which is the establishment of the Mandara Plateau mosaic transboundary Ecosystem platform in Nigeria.
He explained that the platform members will served as the cornerstone for the management and preserving the Mandara Plateau unique ecological assets.
The Minister of Water resources and sanitation added that the Mandara Plateau mosaic is not only a biodiversity hotspot but also a important resource for the local communities that depends on it.
He stressed that setting up the platform will ensure that they have a structure and coordination approach to manage the invaluable ecosystem.
The Regional Director of the Niger basin Lullemeden Taoudeni tranezrouft Acquifer System project NB_ITTAS Mr Allomasso who emphasized the importance of the cross border cooperation and the need for inclusivity in managing the ecosystem.
Allomasso highlighted the objectives of the funds for the project to manage the resources and direct what the have in the Niger basin concerning partnership with Nigeria hence the aim of establishing the platform for the resources of transboudary Ecosystem.
He further said the workshop gave key stakeholders in mandara plateau mosaic mount to discuss the problem of the ecosystem saying that already the camaroun have established their platform is now turn of Nigeria to establish the national platform as soon as the finish they will also do same at the regional levels for the two countries.
Also in his remark,the Representative of the executive secretary of the Niger basin Authority Cameroun NBA,Mr Belibi Tsala told the participants that the ongoing workshop comes after the regional workshop in Yaounde.
Mr Belibi Tsala commended the national focal person to Nigeria and his team said the management of the natural resources including Water is of the poverty reduction strategize and achievement of the sustainable development goals.
He stress that the Niger basin Authority brings together nine West and central African States namely Nigeria, Burkinafaso, Chad,codedivoure, Guinea,Benin, Mali, niger and Camaroun as a subregional organization involved in the issue of Water development and management.
In his vote if thanks,the chairman/president of the national platform of mandara plateau mosaic transboudary Ecosystem platform Nigeria Mr Michael Shehu appreciate the Nigeria basin Authority for the opportunity given to Nigeria promise never to let them down.
Mr Michael Shehu reiterates their commitment towards the realisation of the mandara plateau mosaic project for the benefit and development of people in Nigeria particularly Adamawa state.
Highlight of the two day workshop was various presentation on the process of sitting up the national platform, presentation and adoption of designation criteria, recommendation and communique was issued at the end of the two day event.
