Yuletide: Bishop Mamza distributes learning materials to over 1000 school pupils
The Catholic Bishop of Yola Catholic Diocese, Most Rev. Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza, has distributed learning materials to no fewer than 200 school pupils of missio primary school Damare, Girei local government of Adamawa State as part of an ongoing drive to distribute the materials to over 1000 pupils across the state.
Items distributed to each of the pupils include; school bags, 12 exercise books, pens, rulers and other writing materials.

Mamza thanked Mission take heart for its tireless contributions to the course of learning urging other stakeholders including the state government to follow suit.
The Bishop who expressed happiness with the progress of learning in the school noted that the school since inception has been growing in size and knowledge as pupils of the schools can compete favorably with their counterparts in public schools.
“There is clear indication that the school is doing well, the teachers are doing well. The pupils are learning. The question that I asked them, if you go to some public schools pupil’s may not answer these questions. They are confident and have learnt a lot. There is tremendous improvement in their education,” he said.
Mamza who noted that the school is facing developmental challenges including shortage of classrooms and other facilities vowed to do more to address the issue.
He also enjoined the state government to also come to the aid of the school because it is the responsibility of the government to provide education for all pupils in the state.
“When we started, they are not as many as this, now we have over 200 pupils in the school the parents are fully supportive. One of the challenges we are facing has to do with insufficient facilities. The classrooms are inadequate. It is our hope if we get more resources we will be able to build more classes,” he said .
Commending the gesture, Alfred Michael, the headmaster of the school thanked Bishop Mamza for establishing and sustaining the school.
He said posterity will appreciate the Bishop for such great contributions to education and humanity at a time of peril.
Michael said the distribution of the books and learning materials could not have come at a better time considering the fact that most of the parents lack the resources to purchase such items for their children.
“These materials came at the right time because most of the people here are vulnerable considering the fact that they suffered displacement and deprivations and cannot even afford to buy these materials.
“Most of the children come to school without these basic items because of the condition of the parents. The parents should appreciate the gesture by ensuring that the items are used judiciously and encourage their children to come to school,” he said.
