Katsina State government has allocated an unprecedented N50 billion to tackle water scarcity, signaling a decisive effort by the government to address long-standing challenges in water supply and improve access to clean water for its residents.

The government also unveiled a comprehensive plan to overhaul water facilities, committing N8.4 billion to upgrade infrastructure in five Local Government Areas (LGAs).

The Managing Director of the Katsina State Water Board, Tukur Tigili, disclosed this during the inauguration of a grievance redress committee for the project.

The five benefiting LGAs Daura, Katsina, Dutsin-Ma, Malumfashi, and Funtua will see the replacement of outdated pipelines, installation of modern water systems, and comprehensive facility upgrades aimed at improving access to clean water.

Tigili highlighted that extensive consultations were held with community stakeholders to identify the unique needs of each LGA, ensuring the initiative is community-driven and impactful.

“This project reflects the government’s unwavering dedication to solving the persistent water supply challenges in Katsina State. Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s administration has demonstrated remarkable leadership in prioritizing water infrastructure,” he said.

The initiative is a core component of the NG-SURWASH Implementation Project, a collaborative program between the World Bank and the Katsina State Government designed to enhance water resource management and expand access to clean water.

The state’s allocation of N50 billion to water-related projects underscores its commitment to sustainable solutions. Tigili emphasized that the grievance redress committee would closely monitor the execution of the project to ensure it meets quality standards and delivers lasting results.

This investment is expected to resolve long-standing water shortages, improve sanitation, and uplift the quality of life for residents in the targeted communities, marking a significant step toward ending water scarcity in Katsina State.
