Fintiri is our hero: Huba people extoll Adamawa gov over creation of chiefdom

As the coronation of the Tol Huba approaches this Friday, the Coronation Committee has expressed deep appreciation for Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State for his historic role in restoring the Huba Chiefdom after more than 120 years.

Speaking at a press conference in Yola on Tuesday, the Chairman of the Coronation Committee and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Idi Hong, commended Governor Fintiri for fulfilling a long-standing aspiration of the Huba people. Dr. Hong, emphasized that the restoration of the chiefdom was not a mere privilege but a fundamental right of the Huba community.

He recounted how the Huba Chiefdom was a fully recognized entity before the arrival of colonial powers, with its leader exercising full authority and independence. However, with colonial interference, the chiefdom was systematically downgraded, and the Tol Huba was reduced to an ungraded District Head under the Adamawa Emirate.

Dr. Hong described Governor Fintiri’s intervention as a pivotal moment in the history of the Huba people. He praised the governor’s dedication to fairness, justice, equity, transparency, and inclusiveness, qualities that have defined his leadership. It was on this basis, he noted, that the governor, in December 2024, created the Huba Chiefdom alongside six other chiefdoms and emirates in Adamawa State.

“The emergence of Governor Fintiri marked a turning point in the struggle for the independence of the Huba Chiefdom,” Dr. Hong stated. “His commitment to justice and equity made it unsurprising that he took the bold step of restoring the chiefdom. His decision not only honored our heritage but also empowered our people.”

Additionally, Governor Fintiri expanded administrative governance within the Huba Chiefdom by creating several new districts, bringing the total to fourteen. These include Hong, Shangui, Pella, Uding, Kulinyi, Hyema, Gaya, Hildi, Mugwahi, Mayo Lope, Gashala, Uba, Mufa Dugwaba, and Yadul.

Dr. Hong used the occasion to invite all sons and daughters of the Huba Chiefdom, both at home and in the diaspora, as well as friends and well-wishers, to participate in the grand celebration. The event will not only mark the restoration of the chiefdom but also the presentation of the staff of office to the Tol Huba, His Royal Majesty Alheri Bulus Nyako, by Governor Fintiri on Friday.

He emphasized that this historic moment is a testament to the resilience and unity of the Huba people, who have long yearned for this day.
