Adamawa NUJ chair, Dedan accuses Fintiri’s associate, Dogo of threat to life
The chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Adamawa State council, Mr. Donald Dedan has accused governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s associate, Hamidu Mukhtari, popularly known in political circles as Dogo of threat to life.
In a formal complaint Dedan forwarded to this medium on Sunday, the union leader accused Dogo who is believed to be on the governor’s man Friday and political factotum who also parades himself as the director of PDP youth mobilization of carrying out the threat in public glare.

“On Friday, May 30, 2025, during the Bwatiye International Cultural Fiesta at Mahmud Ribadu Square in Yola, my life was threatened by one Hamidu Muktari, popularly known as Dogo. He parades himself as the Director of Youth Mobilization for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa State.
“The incident occurred shortly after I had the honor of ushering in the Executive Governor of Adamawa State, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, as one of the official Masters of Ceremony. While the Governor was delivering his address, I heard someone ranting aggressively nearby. Turning around to ask the person to lower his voice out of respect for the ongoing speech, I was shocked to discover that the individual causing the disruption was Hamidu Muktari, known in political circles as Dogo.
“To my astonishment and that of many distinguished guests around, he was directing his threats at me. He pointed at me and began making several unprintable and defamatory statements, vowing to “deal with me” once the Governor left the stage and claiming he would show me who he truly is.
“His outburst drew the attention of the Governor’s Aide-de-Camp (ADC) and other members of the protocol team, who immediately intervened and called him to order.
“This incident happened in full view of the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor and several journalists, including members of the Governor’s press crew.
“I have since filed a formal complaint with the Commissioner of Police and the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS). However, I wish to place it on record that if anything happens to me or any member of my family, Hamidu Muktari, aka Dogo, should be held fully responsible.
“This is not the first time Mr. Muktari has harassed or assaulted journalists in Adamawa State with impunity. It is time for the authorities to take necessary action to prevent him from continuing to pose a threat to public safety and press freedom,” he said.
Mr Dogo has variously been accused of threat on people lives including journalists and politicians. Some prominent cases in point was his attack on a veteran journalist, Ibrahim Mista Ali at government house two years ago. In the same vein, a prominent politician, Dr. Umar Ardo has once accused Dogo of mobilizing attack on him and his supporters during a political meeting.
The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has claimed arresting the same Dogo who by popular accounts was not a Nigerian with 166kg of Indian hemp and outlawed substance.
Speaking to newsmen on the issue, the then Adamawa State commandant of NDLEA, Mohammed Bello said; ” We have one Dogo whom we arrested on Sunday 16, 2021 with 166kg of cannabis sativa.
“We have released him on bail because the courts are not sitting now and the man has met all the bail conditions,” he said.
He noted that when court resumes, NDLEA will file a suit adding that investigation is still going on. Since then the fate of the NDLEA suit was not known.
