Haske mourns Nigeria’s illustrious son, erudite scholar, Professor Jibril Aminu

Adamawa’s frontline governorship hopeful and globally acclaimed businessman, Abdurrahman Bashir Haske has expressed deep sadness and melancholy over the death of one of Nigeria’s most illustrious sons, Processor Jibril Aminu.

The erudite scholar died at the age of 85 after a protracted illness on Thursday.

In a press statement made available to this medium Haske, described the death of the professor as a national tragedy.

“With a heavy heart, I join the people of Adamawa State and all Nigerians in mourning the passing of Professor Jibril Aminu — an icon of intellectual excellence, public service, and nation-building.

“Professor Aminu was a man of remarkable distinction — an erudite scholar, seasoned diplomat, accomplished politician, and a visionary administrator whose impact shaped both state and national institutions. His journey through the corridors of academia and public service was defined by brilliance, selflessness, and an unwavering commitment to the common good.

“As a professor of medicine, he inspired many through his academic rigor and dedication to education. His tenures as Vice Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri and Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission marked transformative periods in the Nigerian education sector. His belief in education as a tool for empowerment guided his every move and policy stance.

“In public service, Professor Aminu served with honour and excellence as Minister of Education, Minister of Petroleum Resources, Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States, and as Senator for Adamawa Central. In each role, he demonstrated patriotism, diplomacy, and leadership that earned him national respect and international admiration.

“Beyond his accomplishments, Professor Aminu was a statesman filled with positive energy, humility and wisdom. He remained deeply connected to Adamawa’s grassroots, always advocating for its development and progress. His passing is a monumental loss to our state and our nation.

On behalf of my family, team, and supporters, I offer my sincere condolences to his loved ones. May Allah (SWT) forgive his shortcomings and reward him with Aljannatul Firdaus. Professor Jibril Aminu lived a life of purpose and service. May we honour him by upholding the values he embodied,” Haske said.
