Abdullahi Ibrahim emerges new chair, Adamawa

Comrade Abdullahi Ibrahim, a staff of Adamawa State Television has emerged the new Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Adamawa State Council, after securing 123 votes to defeat Fidelis Jockthan, who polled 45 votes.

The election, held on Wednesday at the NUJ State Secretariat in Yola, was supervised by officials from the national leadership of the NUJ, security agencies, and other observers. Nine NUJ chapters across the state participated in the voting process.

Others elected unopposed alongside the new chairman include Nuwamayinah Idda as Vice Chairperson, Kissinger Bukar as Secretary-General, Mary Adamu as Assistant Secretary-General, Hadiza Aliyu Mahmud as Auditor, Owolabi Efuwape Adenusi as Financial Secretary, and Joe Dimon as Treasurer.

Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, the National Chairman of NUJ, who was represented by Zare Baba, commended the Yunusa Abdullahi led electoral committee for conducting a seamless and transparent process. He described the exercise as one of the best in recent times.

In his acceptance speech, Abdullahi Ibrahim thanked members of the NUJ for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to uphold the trust given to him and work towards the progress and unity of the union in the state.
