Registration of new political parties: Ardo commends INEC’s finesse, professionalism
Dr. Umar Ardo, one of the frontline advocates for the registration of the All Democratic Alliance (ADA) has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its finesse, accountability and openness on the registration of new political parties in Nigeria.
In a statement he made on the progress of the electoral body’s initiatives to ensure the seamless and timely completion of the exercise, Ardo expressed optimism in the sincerity and fidelity of INEC in respect to the party registration exercise.

“Kudos to INEC for the speedy responses since ADA submitted its application. God Willing we will soon conclude the registration of ADA as approved by the National Coalition Committee,” he said.
While giving an update to the request for the registration of more political parties via official memo, INEC said it is working tirelessly to ensure all requests are duly scrutinized and treated in accordance with extant laws.
“At its regular weekly meeting held today, Thursday 10th July 2025, the Commission received further update on additional requests from associations seeking registration as political parties.
“Since last week, seven more applications have been received, bringing the total number so far to 129. All the requests are being processed.
“Unlike the manual method used in previous registration, the Commission is introducing a political party registration portal which is a module in our Party Financial Reporting and Auditing System (PFRAS).
“This will make the process faster and seamless. In the next one week, the Commission will conclude the final testing of the portal before deployment.
“Thereafter, the next step for associations that meet the requirements to proceed to the application stage will be announced. The Commission will also issue guidelines to facilitate the filing of applications using the PFRAS.
“Meanwhile, the list of the new associations has been uploaded to our website and other platforms for public information,” a statement by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman, Information & Voter Education Committee of INEC said.
