NSA, Mustapha Salihu reach out to 700 flood victims as first tranche of relief package hits Yola
No fewer than 700 victims of the recent devastating flood in Yola South Local Government Area have received relief materials, marking the commencement of humanitarian intervention spearheaded by the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and the APC North East Vice Chairman, Comrade Mustapha Salihu.
The first tranche of the relief package was distributed to affected residents drawn from the seven worst-hit communities.

The distribution marks the first coordinated effort by prominent individuals or groups to respond to the needs of the victims since the disaster struck on Sunday.
In response to the tragedy, which resulted in loss of lives, destruction of property, and mass displacement, Ribadu and Salihu constituted a high-powered committee to facilitate the procurement and distribution of emergency relief materials to those affected.
Other stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including Mustapha Atiku Ribadu and Umar Marafa, also contributed N1 million each to support the humanitarian cause.
Speaking during the distribution exercise, Mustapha Atiku Ribadu disclosed that about 700 victims have been screened and verified for the first phase of the intervention. He assured that the exercise will continue until all affected individuals are reached.
“This is the first phase of the relief distribution supported by NSA Mallam Nuhu Ribadu and Comrade Mustapha Salihu. Beneficiaries were selected from seven identified communities impacted by the flood. Each of them is receiving a bag of rice, a carton of spaghetti, a carton of Indomie noodles, cooking oil, and a cash token of N10,000,” he said.
He emphasized that while APC members initiated the support, the gesture is strictly humanitarian and apolitical.
“We’re doing this purely on humanitarian grounds. every affected family, regardless of political affiliation, will benefit. The screening process is rigorous to ensure that only genuine victims are considered” he added.
Ribadu further revealed that more relief items are on the way following a directive by the NSA. These include additional foodstuffs, clothing, medical supplies, mosquito nets, and other essentials.
“Mallam Nuhu Ribadu is deeply concerned about the suffering of the people. He has instructed that more items be mobilized for distribution. What we’ve seen today is just the beginning, our target is to ensure no victim is left out,” he added.
The intervention has been widely lauded as the first major humanitarian response to the flood disaster. Residents have expressed gratitude for the timely support, calling on other well-meaning individuals, government bodies, and NGOs to complement the efforts.
A beneficiary, Salma Hamidu thanked the NSA and other donors of the support noting that it will go a long way in alleviating their plight calling on other organizations and well meaning individuals to in the spirit of humanity follow suit.
