PWDs Applaud Adamawa First Lady’s Intervention, Seek Disability Rights Law
Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Adamawa State have commended the wife of the state governor, Hajiya Lami Ahmadu Fintiri, for her continued support through her pet project, the Fresh Air Pro-Life Employment Foundation (FAPEF).
Speaking to journalists in Yola on Friday, the North-East Zonal Coordinator of the Blind Association, Mr. Jibrin Amzaranda, praised the First Lady for empowering PWDs across all 21 local government areas of the state. He revealed that each PWD cluster had benefited from the distribution of 20 motorcycles, 20 sewing machines, 20 grinding machines, and 20 refrigerators under the FAPEF initiative.

Amzaranda noted that while the First Lady’s interventions have significantly improved the lives of the over 600,000 PWDs in the state, more still needs to be done. He appealed to her to push for the passage and domestication of the Disability Rights Commission Bill currently before the Adamawa State House of Assembly. According to him, enacting the bill would guarantee legal protections and access to services like healthcare, education, rehabilitation, and vocational training for the disabled community.
The group also acknowledged a recent distribution of relief items to 2,000 beneficiaries at the Special Education Centre in Jada LGA, aimed at uplifting the most vulnerable individuals.
In addition, Amzaranda revealed that the First Lady had provided financial support to help members boost their small-scale businesses. He appealed to her to further support qualified PWDs in gaining access to government jobs.
He urged PWD members to remain law-abiding and productive, saying that doing so would justify the support they continue to receive.
The group also called on the state government to allocate a five percent employment quota to PWDs to help alleviate their socioeconomic challenges.
