B.D. Lawal, Jada, others emerge ADC nat’l leaders as party moves to unseat APC in 2027
In a strategic political move ahead of the 2027 general elections, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has unveiled new national officers signaling its readiness to mount a formidable challenge to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) come 2027 general election.
The list of newly appointed leaders was released on Thursday with notable political figures from across the North East making the cut.

Leading the new appointments is former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir David Lawal, who has been named the National Vice Chairman/Zonal Chairman for the North East. Lawal, a former ally of President Muhammadu Buhari, has since fallen out with the APC and emerged as a strong critic of the current administration.
Another prominent figure is Umar Bello Jada, popularly known as “Calculate,” a seasoned grassroots mobilizer and long-time associate of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Jada was appointed Assistant National Organizing Secretary/Zonal Organizing Secretary, a key position expected to play a critical role in rebuilding the party’s presence in the region.
According to party insiders, the appointments are part of the ADC’s broader strategy to reposition itself as a viable force ahead of the 2027 elections. The North East, being a politically significant region, is central to the party’s plans to dislodge the APC from power.
Political observers have expressed optimism with the direction of the party mirrored by the the composition of the new leadership.
They noted that the move reflects a deliberate attempt by the ADC to attract heavyweights and grassroots politicians capable of galvanizing support in the zone.
”The party appears focused on capitalizing on growing discontent with the ruling APC and the perceived failures of governance in the region,” a political analyst, Sabiu Mohammed said.
Speaking to our reporter Calculate revealed that the party plans to launch an aggressive mobilization campaign across the region in the coming months, focusing on youth inclusion, women participation, and a people-centered policy agenda.
With the 2027 elections drawing closer, the ADC’s latest appointments may well signal the beginning of a serious political realignment in the North East, as opposition forces look to close ranks and challenge the APC’s dominance.
