PDP support group congratulates Damagum on confirmation as PDP nat’l chair
The Arewa PDP Support Group, with headquarters in Kaduna, has congratulated Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum on his confirmation as the substantive National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a statement signed by its National Secretary, Hon. Desmond Minakaro, the group described Damagun’s confirmation as a major step toward repositioning the party for future electoral victories. It commended members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) for the decision, describing it as “timely, strategic, and in the best interest of the PDP and Nigeria’s democracy.”

According to the statement, the Arewa PDP Support Group fully aligns itself with the NEC’s resolution, stressing that Damagun’s leadership offers the party a renewed opportunity to strengthen internal unity and consolidate its grassroots support. The group urged all members of the PDP, particularly in the northern region, to close ranks and give the new chairman maximum support.
“This is the time for loyalty and collective effort. The PDP remains the most credible platform for rescuing Nigeria, but success will only come if members remain united and committed to the ideals of the party,” the group said.
The group also called on the party’s leadership to take firm measures against any individual or group bent on destabilizing the PDP. It insisted that anyone found undermining the unity of the party, whether through divisive actions or inflammatory remarks, should face disciplinary measures.
“Beyond congratulating Damagun, the Arewa PDP Support Group extended felicitations to the PDP family nationwide, as well as Nigerians who still believe in the party’s vision of good governance. The confirmation of the chairman was a sign of the party’s readiness to bounce back stronger ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“The Arewa PDP Support Group congratulates not only Ambassador Damagun but also the entire PDP family and indeed Nigerians, as the party takes another step toward national rebirth,” the statement added.
The group reaffirmed its commitment to mobilizing grassroots support across northern Nigeria and pledged to continue working with other stakeholders to ensure that the PDP reclaims power at all levels of governance.
