ADC Adamawa calls for calm, seeks justice over Lamurde killings
The Adamawa State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called for calm and urgent steps to restore peace in Lamurde Local Government Area following violent clashes that led to the deaths of nine women and left several others injured.
In a statement signed by its state chairman, Shehu Yohanna Kambile, the party said it received the news of the incident with deep shock, describing the killings as “tragic, unacceptable and a grave violation of fundamental human rights.”

The ADC stressed that the protection of women remains a universal humanitarian obligation, even in times of conflict, and condemned the violence as an affront to the people of Adamawa State.
The party expressed concern over the renewed hostility between the Tsobo and Bachama communities, noting that both groups have lived together peacefully for more than a century, bound by cultural ties, intermarriages and shared economic activities.
It lamented that the incident occurred at a time when governments at all levels are investing heavily in initiatives aimed at fostering unity and peaceful coexistence across the state.
Extending its condolences, the ADC sympathized with the Government of Adamawa State, the Hama Bachama, Homun Daniel Shagah Ismail, families of the victims and the entire Lamurde community.
It urged all parties involved to embrace dialogue and immediately put an end to retaliatory attacks that could plunge the area into deeper crisis.
“We warn that continued crisis only leads to further needless loss of lives and destruction of property,” the statement read.
The party therefore called on the Federal Government and the National Assembly to set up an independent panel of inquiry to investigate the root causes of the violence and recommend measures to prevent a recurrence, while ensuring that all perpetrators are held accountable.
The ADC also appealed to the military and other security agencies deployed to the area to strictly adhere to their rules of engagement while restoring order, stressing that professionalism and restraint are crucial to rebuilding public trust.
To the bereaved families and all those affected, the party offered prayers and urged them to draw strength from God during this difficult period.
It further encouraged the communities to uphold the long-standing values of peace, cooperation and brotherhood that define the social fabric of Adamawa State.
