Atiku’s son reiterates resolve for father’s defeat in 2027, receives heroic welcome in Adamawa
In an animated atmosphere that has sent ripples through Nigeria’s opposition camp, Abba Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice President and perennial presidential contender Atiku Abubakar, has openly declared his resolve to work against his father’s 2027 presidential ambition by throwing his full weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Abba Atiku made this position clear on Monday in Yola, Adamawa State, where he was formally received into the APC amid a rousing, and carnival-like atmosphere at the party’s state secretariat.

Party faithful, youth groups, and supporters trooped out in large numbers to welcome him, and hailed his move as pragmatic, historic and courageous.
Receiving Abba Atiku, the Chairman of the APC in Adamawa State, Barrister Shuaibu Idris, described the defection as a strong signal of President Tinubu’s growing national acceptance, even within the elite opposition circles.
According to Idris, the decision of the son of a leading opposition figure to publicly commit to Tinubu’s re-election underscores the widening appeal and political capital of the President across party and family lines.
He noted that the son of Atiku has made a clear and unambiguous statement with his latest decision noting that the decision of the son of one of the most dominant opposition figure to align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and commits himself to his victory, speaks volumes about the direction of the country and the confidence Nigerians have in his administration.
He praised Abba Atiku for what he called an independent, bold, and patriotic choice, noting that the move showed a willingness to rise above personal, family, and emotional considerations in favour of what he believes is in the national interest.
Idris assured the new entrant of equal rights and opportunities within the party, stressing that the APC would provide a level playing field guided by justice, equity, and fairness.
“You have demonstrated conviction in President Tinubu’s leadership. The leader of our party in Adamawa State, the National Security Adviser receives you warmly and assured you of full inclusion. The APC family is delighted to have you,” he added.
Also speaking, a youth leader of APC in Adamawa State, Jamilu Yusuf Danumma, described Abba Atiku’s defection as a major political boost for the party ahead of 2027. He revealed that Abba did not come alone but defected with his entire national political structure.
Danumma disclosed that Abba Atiku had earlier completed his registration at the APC Gwadabawa Ward, where he met with ward and local government party leaders before proceeding to the state secretariat for the formal reception.
The Organising Secretary of the APC in Adamawa State, Mustapha Atiku Ribadu, also described the development as historic, noting that it coincided with the alignment of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State with the APC on the same day in another state.
“We are grateful to receive two Abbas today, one in Kano and one in Adamawa. Abba Atiku Abubakar has shown clarity of judgment, wisdom, and political foresight. He has proven that he can take decisions independently, without being driven by sentiments,” he said.
Speaking after his formal registration, Abba Atiku Abubakar expressed deep appreciation for the warm reception he received from the APC, from the national leadership down to his ward.
He said the respect and sense of belonging shown to him reinforced his decision and strengthened his resolve to work for the party’s success.
“I am grateful for this warm embrace, from Abuja to my ward and the state secretariat. I am ready to work with all stakeholders to give my full, indefatigable support to the APC,” he said.
Abba Atiku went further to call on party members to close ranks and mobilize massively for President Tinubu’s re-election, making it clear that his political loyalty now lies firmly with the APC.
“We must work together and do everything possible to ensure the victory of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027,” he declared.
