Akangbe, SAN receives royal honour, stirs welfare discourse @ Yola law week
Yola, Adamawa State — The Yola Law Week of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Yola Branch, recorded a historic moment with the distinguished presence of Mr. Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN, whose participation left a lasting imprint on both the professional and cultural landscape of Adamawa State.
From his arrival on Monday, Akangbe, SAN, was accorded a warm and memorable reception, reflecting the high esteem in which he is held within the legal community. The atmosphere of welcome set the tone for an impactful engagement throughout the Law Week.

As a discussant on the keynote address delivered by the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr. Afam Osigwe, SAN, on the theme “Beyond the Present: The Evolution of a State, the Justice Sector and Lawyers,” Akangbe, SAN spoke extemporaneously and addressed the critical issue of lawyers’ welfare, cutting across both young and senior members of the Bar. He emphasized that the NBA Constitution is fundamentally designed to safeguard the welfare and dignity of lawyers, firmly rejecting the notion that asserting lawful entitlements amounts to an “entitlement mentality.” His contribution was widely applauded for its clarity, courage, and relevance.
Beyond the formal sessions, Akangbe, SAN hosted an informal hangout session at the prestigious Stallion Hotel, Yola, which witnessed a massive turnout of lawyers. The gathering fostered mentorship, professional bonding, and open conversations about the future of the legal profession.
In recognition of his impact, humility, and leadership, Akangbe, SAN was conferred with the traditional title “Ardo of NBA Adamawa,” a revered honour signifying leadership, nobility, and community influence.
He also used the opportunity to announce the Yemi Akangbe Free NWLR Online Access Initiative for 25,000 Young Lawyers, a landmark welfare intervention providing complimentary access to the Nigerian Weekly Law Reports (NWLR) Online Platform. The initiative, spearheaded by Akangbe, SAN—former Chairman of the NBA Lagos Branch is open to lawyers between 0–7 years post-call, on a first-come, first-served basis, nationwide.
His departure from Yola on Tuesday, 10th February 2026, was marked by escorts and courtesies befitting his status, bringing to a close a visit defined by respect, meaningful engagement, and lasting professional impact.
