Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (rtd.) has donated N250 million to support the expansion of the Adamawa Government House Chapel and construction of residences for its chaplain and deputy.

Danjuma, who was represented by retired Gen. Ishaya Bamaiyi, announced the donation at the 20th anniversary celebration of the Chapel in Yola on Saturday.

The anniversary had the theme: “Thus far has the Lord helped us” (1 Samuel 7:12).

He commended the founding fathers and anniversary organisers for their vision, commitment and contributions towards the establishment and growth of the Chapel.

Danjuma also urged residents to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 general elections rather than former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.

He argued that Tinubu’s administration had appointed more Christians into key government positions, adding that the appointments had contributed to the country’s development.

Meanwhile, the First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, urged youths, particularly Christian youths, to shun political thuggery and embrace peaceful conduct ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Tinubu, who was represented by the Deputy Governor of Adamawa, Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, advised youths against allowing politicians to exploit them for selfish interests.

She urged young people to promote peace, tolerance and responsible participation in the electoral process.

Farauta, who also represented Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri, conveyed the governor’s message that the Chapel should serve as a unifying platform for Christians across denominations.

He said the Chapel belonged to the entire body of Christ and should not be identified with any particular denomination.

Fintiri urged members of the Chapel to sustain its spiritual activities and ensure that the fire on the altar continued to burn.

He expressed hope that God’s presence would continue to guide the government and inspire efforts towards the development and peaceful coexistence of residents.

“Adamawa belongs to all of us. We must all join hands to ensure that the state continues to move forward, while living together as one another’s keepers,” he said.

In his remarks, former Gov. Boni Haruna said the Chapel was established in 2005 to fulfil the original architectural design of the Government House complex.

Haruna explained that the original design provided for two places of worship, a mosque and a chapel, reflecting the principles of equity and fairness upon which the complex was conceived.

He said the construction of the Chapel was also intended to address the historical imbalance and actualise the inclusive vision of the Government House.

Haruna expressed hope that the Chapel would remain a symbol of unity and a reminder that Adamawa belonged to all residents, irrespective of religious differences.

Similarly, the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Chapel, Mr Boss Mustapha, described the anniversary as a celebration of faith, courage, perseverance, unity and God’s faithfulness.

Mustapha said the Chapel’s journey reflected a vision conceived in adversity, sustained through prayers and eventually fulfilled through divine providence.

He said its location within the seat of government underscored the importance of prayer, moral responsibility, humility and service in public leadership.

Mustapha urged the Chapel’s leadership to preserve its ecumenical character while respecting religious diversity and constitutional freedoms.

Highlights of the celebration included the presentation of awards to the First Lady, Gov. Fintiri, founding fathers and past chaplains of the Chapel.

The event also featured donations from dignitries, including: Boss Mustapha Former SGF, Boni Haruna, Former Governor  Adamawa State, Bala Nggilari, Former Governor Adamawa state, Sen. Amos Yohana, and Dr Edgar Amos, among others.
