No fewer than 300 youths, women and professional groups in Adamawa State have pledged their support for the governorship ambition of Senator Ishaku Abbo following his appointment of Hon. Abubakar Usman Damare as Director-General of his campaign organisation.

The groups, which comprise youth and women associations, professionals and other community-based organisations, made the commitment at a high-stakes meeting held in Yola on Saturday, where speakers described Damare’s appointment as a gesture that had strengthened their interest in Abbo’s 2027 governorship campaign.

They vowed to deploy their networks and grassroots structures to canvass support for Abbo across Adamawa’s 21 local government areas and 226 electoral wards.

They also said the emergence of Damare, whom they described as one of Yola South’s prominent sons, had given the constituency a strategic stake in the 2027 election project.

Speaking after the meeting, Mohammed Isa Ahmed said professional groups in the state have concluded finishing touches to mobilise support for Abbo in appreciation of his decision to entrust Damare with a key responsibility in his campaign directorate.

Ahmed said he would personally mobilise no fewer than 150 professional groups across the state to support the senator’s aspiration.

He said, “We must thank and appreciate Senator Ishaku Abbo for extending this olive branch to Yola South by picking one of our illustrious sons, Hon. Abubakar Usman Damare, as his campaign Director-General.

“For this gesture, we will mobilise no fewer than 150 professional groups to support his aspiration as a mark of respect and appreciation to the senator for picking our son.

“We will use our networks and goodwill to mobilise people across the 226 wards of the state, and we will work to secure the support of at least 75 per cent of our professional network.”

He said the groups would also embark on grassroots engagements designed to take Abbo’s message beyond Yola South and into other parts of the state.

A youth leader in Yola South, Alkassum Usman Yahaya, similarly said youths and women in the area have already commenced mobilisation efforts in support of Abbo ahead of the 2027 election.

Yahaya said Damare’s appointment has generated considerable enthusiasm among young people in the constituency, adding that they regarded the appointment as recognition of the political relevance and capacity of Yola South LG.

“Abbo has done us proud by selecting our respected leader and our most cherished son for this very important position.

“For that gesture, the senator will get our unconditional support. We are poised to mobilise more than 150 different groups to back his ambition.

“We have finalised arrangements to reach every nook and cranny of the state, using our networks to canvass support for our governorship hopeful. By the grace of God, victory shall be ours,” he said.

Also speaking, the convener of Jahargal Robe, a women’s group in Yola South, Aisha Usman, said women would play a central role in the mobilisation effort.

Usman said women remained an important component of grassroots political mobilisation because of their numerical strength and extensive community networks.

“Women are the backbone of any successful electoral drive. We have the numbers, the commitment and the integrity to fulfil our pledge.

“We will deploy these sterling attributes to ensure the success of Senator Abbo for choosing our own son as campaign Director-General.

“We believe that with Damare occupying a strategic position in Abbo’s campaign and, potentially, in his government, the people of Yola South will have an important stake in the administration,” she said.

The meeting also provided a platform for the groups to discuss strategies for expanding the campaign’s grassroots presence, particularly among youths, professionals and women.

The groups said their mobilisation would focus on direct engagement with communities and stakeholder groups across the state, while urging supporters to maintain peaceful and issue-based political campaigns ahead of the 2027 elections.

Abbo, a former senator representing Adamawa North Senatorial District, is seeking to return to the political frontline through the governorship race.
