We can’t betray Tinubu, who supports Atiku, Ribadu’s presidential bids — Adamawa renewed hope coordinator

The Adamawa State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Agenda, Hon. Mohammed Salihu, popularly known as Abba Girei, has declared that the state owes President Bola Ahmed Tinubu a debt of political gratitude, insisting that the President deserves support for re-election in 2027.

Girei made the declaration on Tuesday while addressing thousands of Tinubu supporters who participated in a solidarity rally in Yola, where he cited the President’s past political support for prominent Adamawa-born politicians, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.

The rally, which reportedly disrupted business activities along some major routes in the state capital, commenced at the Government House gate, proceeded through Unity Roundabout and Bank Road, and returned to the Government House, where the coordinator addressed the crowd.

Girei argued that Adamawa could not afford to turn its back on Tinubu, whom he credited with playing significant roles in the presidential ambitions of some of the state’s most prominent political figures.

“In 2007, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu single-handedly gave Alhaji Atiku Abubakar a presidential ticket to run under the Action for Democracy (AD), and in 2011, he gave Mallam Nuhu Ribadu a presidential ticket to run under the ACN,” he said.

He also recalled Tinubu’s role in the political journey of the late President Muhammadu Buhari, particularly the alliance that preceded Buhari’s eventual victory in the 2015 presidential election.

“In 2015, Tinubu lifted the hands of the late President Muhammadu Buhari and assured him of becoming President despite multiple failed attempts, and he won. We can only tell Tinubu we are grateful because he has done so much, and we can’t betray him,” Girei declared.

The coordinator further argued that Tinubu had demonstrated confidence in Adamawa by appointing Ribadu as National Security Adviser, a position he described as a significant national responsibility entrusted to a son of the state.

“He has appointed our own Nuhu Ribadu and given him the NSA office to handle. Is it this kind of person you will betray? No way,” he said.

Girei also credited the Tinubu administration and the security leadership with efforts to tackle insecurity, expressing optimism that the country would make further progress against insurgency and other security threats.

Turning to state politics, the Renewed Hope coordinator commended Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, whom he described as a leader whose administration had brought recognition and development to Adamawa.

“Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri is making Adamawa proud all over Nigeria. He has transformed and made the state new altogether. No governor has done what Fintiri is doing in this country,” he said.

Girei urged the rally participants to mobilise support for Tinubu and the APC ahead of the 2027 general election, insisting that the President remained his preferred choice for the state.

He also called for support for APC candidates across the ballot, urging party supporters to work towards securing victories for the party at all levels.

The rally comes against the backdrop of Adamawa’s longstanding significance in national politics, being the home state of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and a major political battleground ahead of the 2027 elections.

Organisers described the turnout as evidence of growing support for Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda in the state, expressing confidence that Adamawa would deliver substantial votes for the President and APC candidates.
