Hanifa: Ganduje vows to assent death sentence on Tanko, urges speedy trial

~ As court begins litigation

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state has promised to abide by the constitutional provision as the governor to assent to death sentence in the circumstance, when passed by Court, over the gruesome murder of a 5 year pupil Hanifa Abubakar Abba.

Monday, said, Ganduje made the revelation when he paid a condolence visit alongside his Deputy, Dr Nasuru Yusuf Gawuna, Majority Leader, State House of Assembly, Labaran Abdul Madari and other top government functionaries, at the family’s residence in Dakata/Kawaji.

“We have good confirmation from the court handling the process that, justice would be done. No stone would be left unturned,” he disclosed.

Assuring that, “Whoever is found guilty of this heinous offence will also face death without wasting any time. As a government we have already started the process.”

Governor Ganduje said “Our constitution provides that, when a death sentence is passed, it is the constitutional power of the governor to assent for the execution of the culprit. I assure you all that, I will not waste even one second.”

On the speed of the proceeding he further encouraged that, there would be speedy dispensation of justice, adding that, “Government will take good care of the family of our late child Hanifa of blessed memory.”

For the schools affected by this tragedy, governor Ganduje revealed that, government would do something about the schools.

Hanifa’s Killer Arraigned, Remanded Till February

Abdulmalik Tanko, Proprietor of Noble Kids School in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, has been arraigned before a magistrate’s Court in Kano.

He was arraigned before Senior magistrate, Muhammad Jibril, over the murder of Hanifa Abubakar, a five-year-old pupil.

Tanko had confessed killing Hanifa with rat poison after abducting her in December.

Tanko, 34, and his accomplices, Hashim Isyaku, 37 years, and Fatima Jibrin, 26 years, all residents of Tudun Murtala in Nasarawa LGA were over criminal conspiracy, kidnap, confinement and culpable homicide contrary to section 97, 274, 277, 221 of the penal code.

The First Information Report reads, “That Abdulmalik Tanko conspired with one Hashim Isyaku and Fatima Jibrin to kidnap, kill her with rat poison and buried her remains in a shallow grave located at one of his school at Tudun Murtala Kwanar Yan Ghana area; Northwest Preparatory school.

“The suspect later demanded ransom payment of 6 million Naira which resulted to his arrest by the Department of Security Service (DSS) and then later the grave was found by the combined team of the DSS and the police.”

The prosecution counsel led by the Attorney-General of Kano, Musa Abdullahi Lawan, told the court that they have filed application asking the court to remand the accused in prison custody.

The granted the application and ordered the accused persons to be suspects to be remanded in custody.

The case have been adjourned till February 2, 2022.
