My people threaten to cut ties with me for failing to contest elections – Azura

A senatorial hopeful, Barr. D.D Azura has disclosed that due to his lethargy to contest elections in the past, his people at a point threatened to cut ties with him.

Azura who described himself as a village man because of the intimacy and camaraderie he enjoyed with the grassroot noted that he came under intense pressure by the the people to contest for political offices which he always reneged to the extent the people threatened to cut ties with him.

Azura is one of the senatorial hopefuls under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) aspiring to represent Adamawa central senatorial zone.

The aspirant who made the disclosure weekend, during a session with newsmen in Yola, noted that the large scale corruption in the polity always scares him from vying for political offices especially because of the experience he had when he served as chairman of a local government but despite that the pressure from his people kept filing.

Azura noted that he always dodged the request to serve by pointing to other people who after election also fail the electorates.

He added that his relationship with the village and the grassroot became even stronger with time as his seamless relationship with the village people who at every point will ask him to contest grew stronger adding that at a point some of them said they will cut stop eating the food and other niceties he extends to them.

“It has reached a point where I fear I cannot escape to contest because after I became a local government chairman there is never a year that I did not organize a meeting in my village.

“I became so close to the village people and enjoyed working with them so much I became a village man. I find it difficult to take proper bath because some of them will even want to come to the bathroom to discuss some issues with me. When you get so close with the village people, they believe they are safer with you. They insisted that I must contest so I always tell them I will bring my friends one after another to contest and win but they are not helping them.

“At a point they said if I will not contest they are not going to do anything with me and they will stop eating the food I serve them. Fortunately, or unfortunately, the chairman of the meeting I’m having with my people died and because I’m not interested in contesting I left the country,” he said.

He noted that when he finally came to condole with the family of the deceased chairman, the people ambushed him and said he must show his commitment to contest as they are tired of his excuses adding that he has no alternative other than to do their bidding.

Azura said he has the knowledge, wisdom, exposure and the political commitment to change the fortunes of his people if elected and urged them to vote for him as he is the most qualified among the array of personalities currently vying for the position.
