Ardo calls for the removal of Adamawa speaker for declaring seat of lawmaker vacant

A chieftain of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Adamawa State, Dr. Umar Ardo has called on the speaker of Adamawa State House of assembly, Rt. Hon Aminu Iya Abbas to resign for superintending the plenary which declared the seat of a lawmaker vacant for defecting to another political platform.

The state house of assembly has on Wednesday declared the seat of the member representing Michika state constituency, Joseph Ayuba vacant for moving from PDP to APC.

In a statement he sent to our reporter, Wednesday, Ardo accused the speaker for acting outside the confines of his constitutional remit.

“What is going on in the Adamawa State House of Assembly, as in many other States of the Federation and the National Assembly, is not only a breach of the constitution and the oath of office subscribed to by the leadership of the legislative body, but it is also shameful and disgraceful.

“In a situation where the Speaker of the House will pick and choose when and on whom to apply the provision of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the law, which he swore by the Holy Qur’an to apply, protect and defend, without fear, favor or ill will, clearly the Speaker is not worth holding that exalted office.

“Elevating partisan considerations over and above the law is not only illegal and immoral, but will spell doom to our democracy and society. In any sane clime, he should either resign, or failure to do so, he should be impeached for breach of the constitution and the oath of office,” he said.
