A chieftain of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Adamawa State, Dr. Umar Ardo has disclosed that no political appointee of governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri could partake in any election as the time allowed for such appointees to resign from the position they are currently occupying has elapsed.
He vowed to take anyone who disregard the electoral act and partake in the forthcoming election in the state to the court.
Dr Ardo in a statement he personally signed and forwarded to this medium on Tuesday said, “all those who are holding appointed public offices in Adamawa state, such as commissioners, advisers, special assistants, chief of dtaff, CEOs of parastatals, chairmen of boards, etc., who are desirous of contesting elective offices in the state but have not so far resigned their current offices less than 30 days to the primaries in compliance with section 84(12) of the Electoral Act 2022, cannot now contest the elections.
“Any attempt on such persons to now go into the contests while holding such appointments or resigning less than 30 days to their parties’ primaries will be a gross violation of the Electoral Act and therefore ineligible to contest. And if they attempt to do so they will be challenged in the law court.”
