~ As NAOWA commissions bakery, pure water factory
No fewer than 64 beneficiaries graduated from the entrepreneurship and skills acquisition center operated by the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA) 23rd Army brigade, Yola over the weekend.
The beneficiaries received training in various skills including computer, bag making, barbing, catering, hair dressing, make up and tailoring.
Commending the brigade for providing such opportunities to the teeming youth, women and other vulnerable groups in the barrack, the special guest of honor and wife of Adamawa State governor, Lami Fintiri said the move will enhance the living conditions of the graduands in no small measure.
She noted that with the skills acquired, she is optimistic that the living standards of the beneficiaries will seriously improve adding that such move is in tandem with the resolve of the state government to empower women, youth and vulnerable groups in the state.
The governor’s wife who was visibly ecstatic for the NAOWA’s giant strides donated the sum of N1 million to the skills aquisition center.
In her speech, the chairperson NAOWA 3 division Mrs Hawwa S. Ali commended the coordinator NAOWA 23 brigade for actualizing the laudable projects.
She also commended the brigade commander for addressing issues of serious concerns relating to residents of the cantonment.
She also commended the brigade for addressing the concerns of widows within the cantonment adding that Nigerian Army take their welfare as a top priority adding that the Army is not only concerned about the welfare of serving soldiers but even those who died in the line of duty to the father land.
She noted that some of the benefits that accrue to the families of soldiers who died in the line of duty include; burial expenses, NAWIS/BEN funds, death gratuity, sponsorship of their children to school and Group life assurance.
She however urged such families to liaise with their late husband’s unit in other to gain access to these benefits.
Ali also donated some relief materials to the family members of the deceased soldiers and urged them to enroll in the skills acquisition center.
In her opening remark, the coordinator NAOWA 23 brigade, Mrs Fauziya Aminu Garba commended the invited guest for gracing the occasion.
Additionally, the coordinator assured the guest of the graduating students’ readiness in meeting the demands of the wider society through the various skills acquired from the centre.
The climax of the event was the commissioning of the bakery and pure water factory and donation of five computers to the computer centre by the commandant 23 armoured brigade Brigadier General A.M Garba.
The event was graced by the commandant 23 brigade, Brig Gen AM Garba, command’s Logistics base 2, senior officers, civil directors, heads of ministries and Agencies in Adamawa State, NAFOWA and POWA Coordinators Adamawa Chapter, top businessmen and entrepreneurs.
