Maryam Abacha American University Kano, has on Wednesday honoured the presidential candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar during an elaborate occasion that culminated in the naming of one of the faculties after the former Vice President.
The event which coincides with the matriculation of over 1,000 students, took a carnival dimension, as both students and staff of the university in a spontaneous show of happiness hailed the former vice president.
Many dignitaries including present and former governors, ministers and other party stalwarts graced the epoch making occasion.
The President/Founder of the institution, Prof Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo noted that after due consultations, the university deemed it fit to name school of social and management sciences after the former vice president considering his robust contributions to the development of education.
Atiku who expressed gratitude for the honour showered encomiums on professor Gwarzo for his giant strides in instituting such a monumental legacy.
He noted that such attainment by a young trailblazer should serve as a motivation to the teeming youth of Nigeria to rise up and take the gauntlet as he said the future belongs to them.
