~ As female medical ward bags best ward of the year
Sustainability and improvement upon, mark the achievements in the transition from the Federal Medical Centre, FMC Yola to Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital MAUTH, Yola, Adamawa state.
From last week to the week ending today, there have been programmes, events, progress recorded and the courtesy visits; the message of which was the commendation showered on the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof Auwal Muhammad Abubakar.
One particular staff-centred event worthy of mention other than the promotion examination that was celebrated a week before, was the annual award presentation that showcased the most improved wards of the year, following the assessments that identified the most improved ward of the month; an initiative of the CMD that is sustained to this day.
The best ward of the year 2021 goes to the Female Medical Ward (FMW) with 99.55% score, second prize goes to the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) with 99.23% score, while third prize goes to the Paediatric Surgical Ward (PSW) with 99.03% score
The Adamawa state Governor, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, ably represented by the Head of Service, Dr. Amos Edgar as the special guest of honour and the Vice Chancellor, Modibbo Adama University, MAU Yola, Prof Abdullahi Liman Tukur as the chairman of the occasion have commended the Chief Medical Director, Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital, MAUTH Yola Prof Auwal Muhammad Abubakar for the hospital expansion, upgrading the service windows and the transition from federal medical centre to teaching hospital for which the duo were among the stakeholders in the struggle for the success story.
The commendations were made Friday, while presenting the 2021 Maryamu Dangtibiya Ward Assessment Award being organised by the management of the hospital at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Yola.
The capacity development in terms of staff and facility; the accreditation of the clinical departments by regulatory bodies to run postgraduate trainings, otherwise referred to as residency training; the establishment of the postgraduate programmes in nursing, namely; School of Post Basic Perioperative Nursing and the School of Post Basic Accident and Emergency Nursing, in addition to sponsoring other post basic nursing trainings outside the state.
There was also the reflection of the series of successful separations of the conjoined twins, among other successful complicated surgeries.
In their separate remarks The CMD and the Board chairman, MAUTH Yola have commended the Adamawa state Governor and the VC MAU Yola for their contributions in improving the standard of MAUTH Yola.
In addition to the recognition of the best ward of the year 2021 with the presentation of awards, the event has also factored in the send off ceremony in honour of the former Director Administration of the hospital, the pioneer secretary of the hospital board of management, Alhaji Aliyu Mohammed Nayejo (Dan-Madami Mayo-Belwa).
In addition to the plaques the first position goes with N200,000, the second position goes with N150,000, the third position goes with N100,000 while positions from fourth to sixteenth attract amounts ranging from N50,000.

15th position – Accident and Emergency Unit (A&E): 95.92%
14th position – Female Surgical Ward (FSW): 97.05%
13th position – Ante-Natal Ward (ANW): 97.09%

11th position – Male Medical Ward (MMW): 97.77%
10th position – Emergency Paediatric Unit (EPU): 97.85%
9th position – Male Surgical Ward I (MSW I): 98.04%
8th position – Private Suit (PS): 98.24%
7th position – Male Surgical Ward II (MSW II) 98.53%
6th position – Labour Ward (LW): 98.80%
