DSS uncovers plot to stall Emefiele’s investigation
The Department of State Services (DSS) has recently revealed a disturbing plot aimed at infiltrating its ranks in an effort to exploit disloyal staff members for subversive purposes against the agency’s leadership.
The secret police spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, issued a statement on Saturday, expressing concern over certain “subversive elements” who plan to tarnish the DSS’s reputation following the arrest of Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. “Additionally, they seek the immediate release of Emefiele, who is currently under investigation. This revelation has prompted the DSS to issue a warning to the plotters, stating that the security forces are closely monitoring their activities,” Afunanya disclosed.
The DSS spokesperson emphasized that any individuals involved in carrying out these plans would be swiftly arrested noting that the service had already provided Emefiele’s family, medical officials, and relevant individuals with access to him, in adherence to standard operating procedures.
The DSS expressed its determination to remain focused and remain undeterred from executing its crucial responsibilities with professionalism.
“The agency has taken note of the misinformation, speculative narratives, and videos circulated on social media by uninformed individuals, critics, and desperate parties,” the statement said.
The secret police reiterated that it adheres to standard operating procedures regarding suspect handling and investigation, ensuring transparency and professionalism in its operations.
“The agency reiterates its commitment to upholding the rule of law and complying with democratic governance principles,” Afunanya said.
To dispel any doubts, the DSS highlighted that it had granted Emefiele’s family, medical officials, and other authorized individuals access to him even before the court order stipulated it.
“This emphasizes the agency’s dedication to conducting investigations and handling suspects in a lawful and transparent manner,” the statement added.
While the DSS acknowledges the existence of distractions and attempts at intimidation, it asserts its unwavering commitment to executing its duties professionally and without succumbing to pressure.
