IG summons policemen who run over handcuffed man in Edo
In a distressing incident that occurred in Ekpoma, Edo State, a team of policemen driving an official vehicle ran over a middle-aged man who was already in handcuffs, dragging him along the road.
This shocking incident has caused fear among the local residents. In response, the Acting Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has taken swift action by summoning the detained policemen to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
According to a statement released by Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, the erring officers are expected to report to the Force Headquarters on Monday.

The statement highlighted the condemnation of the incident by the acting IGP, stating, “The IGP has condemned the disturbing incident where a police team ran a vehicle over a citizen on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Ekpoma, Edo State.”

The IGP has further directed the detained policemen to report to the Force Headquarters for further action.
Amidst the unsettling incident, the statement appealed to the public, particularly the residents of Ekpoma, to remain calm.

It assured them that the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) would not tolerate unprofessional conduct from its personnel.
The statement emphasized, “Members of the public, particularly the people of Ekpoma, are implored to remain calm as the present leadership of the NPF will not condone such an act of unprofessionalism and illegality.”
“Incidents like this have a severe impact on public trust and confidence in law enforcement agencies.
“The accountability and proper handling of such cases are crucial for maintaining law and order in society.
“The prompt response by the Acting IGP in summoning the involved policemen demonstrates the commitment of the NPF to ensuring justice and preventing misconduct within its ranks,” a public affairs analyst, Mohammed Tanko said.
