Section 11 of the CBN Act outlines the conditions for the removal of an apex bank boss, requiring a two-thirds majority vote in the Senate to support the President’s decision. Alternatively, if the Senate fails to reach this majority, the President must await the governor’s conviction for a criminal offense by a competent court, as stipulated in Section 11 (2)(b) of the Act.
Furthermore, Section 13 (3) of the CBN Act permits a CBN governor to resign by providing a three-month written notice to the President.
Arraignment and Shifted Proceedings
The scheduled arraignment of Emefiele, along with his co-accused Saadat Yaro, an employee of the CBN, and operator of April 1616 Investment Limited, faced delays due to Yaro’s alleged health issues. Initially set for August 17, the arraignment was rescheduled to August 23.
