Police, NSCDC pledge to ensure smooth operation of VAPP law in Adamawa
The police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) have pledged to support the operationalization of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) law in Adamawa State.
Adamawa State police commissioner, Afolabi Babatola and his NSCDC counterpart, Ibrahim Mainasara made the pledge when the Adamawa State Justice Sector Reform Team (JSRT) paid them advocacy visits and presented copies of simplified version of VAPP law to them on Thursday.

While reiterating the commitment of the police to ensure justice for all, the CP noted that the core concern of Adamawa police as a law enforcement agency is to ensure the protection of the fundamental rights of all persons regardless of creed, persuasion and social standing.
Afolabi noted that the relevance of the VAPP law could not be overemphasized as it was meant to ensure justice for all without which no peace can prevail.
He assured the JSRT of the readiness of the police to ensure that all policemen are conversant with the law and work seamlessly in tandem with all its provisions in the state so as to promote the cause of justice adding that even before the visit, the police is working round the clock to ensure sanity in the force.
The CP thanked the team for its resolve to ensure that the justice sector in the state is strengthened to serve the cause of justice in the state.
While promising to uphold the rule of law and respect for human dignity, the commandant NSCDC, Ibrahim Mainasara also vowed to avail the document to all officers and men of the command.
The commandant who was represented by his second in command Abdulhamid Usman expressed appreciation to the JSRT for their untiring efforts towards a just, egalitarian and peaceful state.
He also promised to avail the document to all personnel of the command just as he reiterated the command’s drive towards more collaboration with stakeholders to uphold the rule of law in the state.
He noted that NSCDC is ready for robust communication, knowledge sharing and guidance on the operationalization of the document urging the team to open it’s doors for robust interaction on the subject.
While calling for the support of the two sister organizations to ensure the success of the VAPP law in the state, the chairman of the JSRT, Barr Mohammed Gangs said, the need to involve the security outfits cannot be overemphasized in view of their critical roles in the administration of justice in the state.
Gangs thanked UNFPA for their support towards the production of the simplified version of the VAPP law in the state.
He noted that the JSRT was established to promote better communication and cooperation in the justice sector of Adamawa State by bringing together representatives from the full range of Federal and State agencies and other justice-based organizations and groups operating in the State.
“Among the objectives of the Team is to ensure a fair expeditious dispensation of justice for all and to promote human rights and access to justice.
“The Adamawa State Justice Sector Reform Team is headed by the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, and has its Secretariat domiciled at the Ministry of Justice.
“To support our conversation, the Team has worked in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to produce a simplified version of the VAPP Law.
“This document has been designed for ease of understanding and practical application by law enforcement officers. The support of UNFPA adds credibility to the initiative and underscores the importance of this collaborative effort.
“The Team is eager to deliver the printed copies of the simplified VAPP Law and engage in a meaningful discussion with you.
“This meeting would be an opportunity to address any questions or concerns, share insights, and explore potential strategies for a more robust and responsive justice system,” he said.
