The press conference was attended by women leaders from the 21 local governments of the state drawn from various political parties and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in the state.

It may be recalled that governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has charged the PDP to ensure that only women are allowed to stand as running mates to each of the 21 chairmanship candidates of the party ahead of the upcoming local government polls slated for July 2024.

Zira who thanked Garga foundation for its immense contributions towards the realization of gender equity in politics noted that if given the chance, women in Adamawa State will surely prove their mettle and will discharge their responsibilities with excellence and high degree of professionalism.

She also thanked governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for being a just and equitable leader noting that he is a governor that has all along carried the disadvantaged groups in the state in his strides adding that he has made history as the first governor in the north to appoint women as deputy and chief judge in one fell swoop.

“We are gathered here to celebrate democracy day in Adamawa because democracy is working in the state. We must thank Garga foundation for being a strong pillar behind women in politics.
Indeed Garga foundation has been working assiduously to promote women in politics.

“We are also here to testify as people that Adamawa is really celebrating democracy. The reason is because of leadership that has the masses at heart. The governor is democratic in action we are calling on every party to make sure they are celebrating democracy.

“As Adamawa people we want women participation in politics. We all want the electorate to vote for women. Garga foundation is strongly supporting women because it knows the potentials of women. When women occupy the corridors of power, there will be real development.

“We are also calling on the stakeholders to allow women leaders in the various local governments to serve as the deputy chairmen because they have proven to have the required party loyalty, capacity and tenacity to be appointed to such positions,” she said.

Zira who also recognized the landmark strides of governor Fintiri said she pities everyone who will succeed the governor because he has to work round the clock to match the gigantic strides and legacies that Fintiri bequeaths to the state.

She noted that all the policies and programs of the government are geared to have high impact on the populace especially the women adding that the hospitals, school fees, and insecurity he addressed will have more impact on women than anyone else because these gestures directly affect their children.

She called on other political parties to follow suit by reserving the deputy chairmanship positions to women so that the gesture will have an overwhelming impact across board.
