A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain in Adamawa State, Mr. Ahmed Lawal, has upbraided the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) for willful treason calling on the federal government to revoke their operating licences for testing the will of the state.

It may be recalled that the association has shutdown all filling stations in the state over alleged harassment and confiscation of petrol belonging to its members by the men of operation whirlwind whose mandate is to checkmate smuggling of petrol in the state.

In an interview with our reporter, Lawal urged the federal government to stamp its authority and address the open sabotage by IPMAN as no person or group of persons is above the law.

“I’m calling on the federal government to revoke the operating licences of the IPMAN members for daring it and sabotaging its resolve to ensure the distribution of petroleum products across the state on the flimsy premise that men of the Nigerian Customs Service on operation whirlwind are harassing them.

“This untoward action has subjected the people to another round of untold hardship as price of petrol, goods and services spike to unprecedented levels during the period of the closure of the filling stations. It is trite for the IPMAN to think that it can force the government to condone its crass malfeasance through such contrived unpatriotic action,” he noted.

Lawal said the action of the federal government in addressing the shadowy activities of the IPMAN is a step in the right direction saying that the government cannot watch a small group of unscrupulous shylocks thwarting its policies with impunity.

“The federal government’s move in stopping the smuggling of petroleum products to neighboring countries by selfish and unpatriotic businessmen is commendable. I urge the government to up the ante and maintain the tempo.

“We the people of Adamawa State remain solidly behind the latest action by the government to stop the unpatriotic and treasonous activities of the IPMAN.
We all know for a fact that a great percentage of the petrol sent for the benefit of our citizens always find its way to our neighboring countries thereby creating artificial scarcity leading to untold hardship in the state.

“This is one of the reasons why prices of goods and services keep rising by the day with the mass people of Adamawa at the short end of these unscrupulous men. It is high time that we tell the IPMAN that enough is enough. The people cannot remain your slaves forever,” Lawal said.
