Climate change: Sen Yaroe flags off tree planting campaign in Mayo-Belwa LG
In other to address the onslaught of climate change hobbling the globe, the senator representing Adamawa South senatorial zone, Sen. Binos Dauda Yaroe has on Friday flagged off tree planting campaign at the LCCN Mayo Belwa diocese in Mayo Belwa local government of Adamawa State.
Climate change which is currently ravaging the world is the after effect of the extreme activities of mankind including cutting down of trees, emission of poisonous gases into the atmosphere, indiscriminate dumping of industrial waste and effluent amongst many other causes.

The scourge has resulted into very harsh weather conditions affecting a vast surface of the earth including heat waves, drought, flooding, desertification and a host of other virulent challenges.
In order to contain some of the adverse effects, the senator in conjunction with the Iliya Yame Kwache foundation have launched aggressive tree planting campaign across the state which will culminate in the planting of thousands of trees.
Before the Mayo Belwa activity, the senator has penultimate week performed similar ground breaking tree planting at Michika and Mubi local governments where thousands of trees were planted.
Speaking during the tree planting campaign in Mayo Belwa town, the senator who was represented by Yusuf Williams disclosed that tree planting has become a necessity in order to save the earth from the fury of the climate change.
“Today mother earth is faced with many existential challenges: Climate change that is threatening the survival of many regions of the world is mostly man made.
“We build factories and operate equipment that contribute carbon emissions in volumes into the atmosphere without thought of the damage which is being caused to the environment.
“We cut down trees wantonly without provision for replanting, laying bare the earth surface with the attendant challenges of erosion and desertification.
“We pollute the earth by producing and using plastic materials and strewing them randomly all over the place without thoughts for recycling these wastes as is obtainable in other climes.
“We even produce and use chemicals in the form of herbicides such as the popular roundup herbicide, which poisons plants, the earth’s surface and underground water and is a confirmed cause of cancer. We can go on land on!
We need to proactively take measures to redress this deteriorating environmental issues in the interest of our communities and mankind,” Yaroe said.
He thanked the Iliya Yame Kwache foundation for its serious investment in the environment in order to contain the negative ravages of the climate change.
“The Iliya Yame kwache foundation has taken the lead in changing not only the Michika landscape, but Adamawa environment as a whole. Last saturday, it was Michika LG, yesterday it was Demsa LG, today it is Mayo-Belwa.
“We call on Adamawa State government to support this laudable initiative and collaborate with the Iliya Yame kwache foundation to take this annual tree planting campaign across the entire state.
“We can win the war against climate change, most especially desertification and erosion through regular tree planting. Israel and the United Arab Emirates have proven that man has the capacity to turn the dessert into a lush green environment.
“At this point I would like to sincerely appreciate the Iliya Yame kwache foundation and the chairman, Barr. Iliya Yame kwache for extending the tree planting exercise to Mayo-Belwa. We hope that this partnership will continue in years to come and hope as well that this will be extended to cover the entire state,” he said.
He also prayed for the quick recovery of the founder of the foundation who was involved in a car accident while on transit to one of the tree planting campaigns last week noting that despite the sad incident the founder has continued to support the tree planting from his sick bed.
