Court upholds election of Comrade Sa’idu led NUJ exco

An Industrial Court of Nigeria sitting in Bauchi dismissed a suit filed against the re-election of Comrade Umar Sa’idu led Bauchi state Executive Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

During a judgment on Monday in the the Court reaffirm that Comrade Saidu led executives elections was inline with the Union Constitution.

According to the presiding judge, Justice Mustapha Tijjani dismissed the case filed by three members of the Union, Abdulwahab Muhammad of VOA, Kabiru Garba of BRC and Fatima of the Ministry of Information.

Against the re-election of the state working Committee of the Union in Bauchi which took place last year for lacking in merit.

Tijjani explained that the allegations made by Abdulwahab Mohammad of VOA and two others on the election that produced the current leadership of the NUJ in Bauchi Council on violation of constitution and non compliance with the due process was unfounded.

He confirmed that the petitioners did not exhaust the internal mechanism in laying their complaint as laid down in the NUJ Constitution.

He therefore dismissed the case and affirmed the election result as declared by the Electoral Committee chaired by Afsa Bulak of NTA, Bauchi.

Counsel to NUJ Barrister Rilwanu Jibrin told Journalists that the judgment was in favor of the defendants who were duly and properly elected into office.

The suit file against the defendants lack merits and bases before the court of justice, commending the Judge for taking time to xray the suit and proffer judgment in favor of the defendants.

Speaking to newsmen on the development at the NUJ Secretariat, the Union Chairman Comrade Umar Sa’idu, said that the affirmation of their second term election by the court further demonstrated the will of members of the union in Bauchi state.

He dedicated the court victory to the entire members of NUJ and reiterated his readiness to operate an inclusive leadership to achieve the set objectives, especially in training and retraining of members as well as protect their interest among other plans aimed at moving the union forward.

Comrade Sa’idu, who commended the court ruling that affirmed the mandate given to them at the polls, thanked members of the Union for their cooperation and resilience during the court proceedings.
